The Multi-Modal Paths connect residential neighborhoods, recreation areas, golf courses and healthcare facilities in The Villages. Together with the themed town squares, stages, parks and water activities, they offer different ways to spend your stay: from cultural events and outdoor exercise to golf and guided excursions.

Getting Around and Staying Active

The Multi-Modal Paths are intended for bicycles, golf carts and pedestrians; cars and motorcycles are not permitted on them. This makes the designated modes of transportation an important consideration when planning to use the paths. As traffic rules may change, check the current regulations in advance.

The parks also have their own distinctive features. Kelsea Park offers a spacious green area for cycling and walking dogs. At Spanish Moss Park, towering live oak trees and views of the water are part of the landscape. A ¾-mile walking path with fitness stations adds to the amenities. The park path and open green space offer different ways to spend time outdoors.

Town Squares and Stages

The three historically themed town squares reflect different design ideas. Spanish Springs Town Square evokes a Spanish town. Lake Sumter Landing Market Square is located on the shores of Lake Sumter and is modeled on a lively fishing village. Brownwood Paddock Square evokes an old Florida cattle town. If you are interested in local design, you can compare these distinct themes rather than viewing the squares as alike.

Spanish Springs Town Square offers free entertainment every evening of the year, with live music on an outdoor stage. In addition, the performing arts venues present musicals, plays, concerts, comedy, ballet and performances by a philharmonic orchestra. Specific programs and event dates may change; check the current schedule before planning a visit.

The Sharon Performing Arts Center has just over 1,000 seats and presents Broadway musicals, ballet, concerts, comedy, performances by philharmonic orchestras and opera. The Tracy Theater accommodates more than 800 guests and presents plays, musicals and concerts. Encore at The Tracy Theater is designed for coffeehouse-style events, poetry slams, open-mic nights and small choir concerts. The Savannah Center also offers a wide variety of shows and entertainment, with just over 800 seats. These venues offer different event formats, from live music outdoors and large-scale stage productions to smaller concerts and readings.

Parks, Lakes and Guided Excursions

Guided kayaking tours are offered on Central Lake, Lake Sumter and Lake Okahumpka. The Lake Sumter Line offers boat tours on Lake Sumter featuring wildlife viewing and scenic views. On guided pontoon boat excursions on the same lake, you can learn about the environment and ecosystem. These options differ not only in the type of boat, but also in their focus: the boat tour emphasizes scenery and wildlife viewing, while the pontoon boat excursion provides information about the environment.

Guided catch-and-release fishing trips are also available. Fishing is possible year-round at several scenic spots accessible by golf cart. Guided excursions and independent fishing are therefore different options; year-round availability and access by golf cart are specifically noted for the locations mentioned.

Golf and Other Recreation

The Executive Golf Trail provides access to more than 40 executive golf courses. The number may change as the community develops. A paid trail fee is required to use a golf cart on the executive golf courses; fee policies may change, so it is advisable to check in advance. The Villages also offers pitch-and-putt golf courses.

Sawgrass Grove brings together recreation, golf, shopping, dining and entertainment. Its facilities and commercial offerings may change. Sawgrass Grove thus complements the individual attractions of the town squares, stages, parks and lakes with a combination of recreation, dining and shopping.
