For a stay in Eads, you can choose how much to focus on local history and nature: historic buildings are in town, while the trails at Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site are 23 miles to the northeast. At the memorial site, two trails offer different experiences. The Monument Hill Trail is a total of one mile round trip from the orientation area to a viewpoint with exhibits and benches. The Bluff Trail follows the bluff above Big Sandy Creek; there are informational signs along the way, as well as benches. The Monument Hill Trail offers a specified round trip to a viewpoint; the Bluff Trail’s route above the creek and its informational signs shape the experience. The trail details were last updated on September 22, 2025. Check the information again before your visit.

Architecture and Local History in Eads

Eads School Gymnasium was built in 1929 in the Mission Revival style and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. The two years refer to different aspects of its history: 1929 is the year it was built, and 2013 is the year it was listed. Eads Community Church is another example of church architecture, in the Jacobean Revival style. Those interested in architectural forms can compare these two styles; the gymnasium’s history on the register adds another perspective.

Crow-Hightower House expands the architectural comparison with a residence built in 1952. It has a circular floor plan and is classified as Modern Movement/Novelty. Alongside the style names of the gymnasium and the church, its building type, year of construction and floor plan offer specific points of interest. Together, these sites show different approaches to architectural history without reducing all the examples to the same building form.

Murdock Building offers another perspective and has been a cornerstone of downtown Eads since 1908. It formerly housed a bank, a café, a general store, a dry goods store, and a flower and gift shop. These former uses add the history of downtown commerce to the story of architectural styles and building dates.

Twenty young performers took part, and more than 100 audience members attended. Before traveling, check the annual program and future event dates again.
