Parker offers different ways to discover the area: multi-use trails and historic routes sit alongside cultural offerings. When planning, it’s worth noting the specific differences: some trails are paved, while others are natural-surface; the historic walking tour leads through downtown, while individual sites have their own visiting conditions.
Trails in and around Parker
The Cherry Creek Trail runs for about eight miles through Parker, from Norton Farms Open Space in the north to Stroh Ranch Park in the south. In total, Parker maintains more than 27 miles of paved multi-use trails. Along Cherry Creek in Parker, there are also more than six miles of natural-surface equestrian trails. This means paved trails, multi-use routes, and designated equestrian trails can be considered distinct parts of the trail network.
The Sulphur Gulch Trail is about four miles long. At Bar CCC Park, it connects with the Cherry Creek Trail, passes under Parker Road, and then runs along the south side of Mainstreet through Parker. Bar CCC Park provides a trailhead and parking with access to both trails. The paved Salisbury Park Trail, meanwhile, connects the Salisbury Equestrian and Sports Complex with the Cherry Creek Trail; check its current conditions before using it.
Other trail options differ in route and surface: the natural-surface multi-use loop in Idyllwilde is 1.8 miles long. The Tallman Gulch Trail connects Idyllwilde with the Sulphur Gulch Trail and passes the historic Slemmer Barn and Tallman Meadow Park. The stated distances provide a concrete guide for choosing a route, but do not indicate walking times.
Historic Downtown and Parker Heritage
A self-guided historic walking tour leads through downtown Parker. Along the way, visitors can see historic buildings and sites such as The Schoolhouse, Ruth Memorial Chapel, and Parker Creamery. Historic downtown consists primarily of historic buildings and properties that have been designated as Parker Landmarks on a volunteer basis and remain actively in use. Parker lists a total of 20 properties as Parker Landmarks.
Twenty-Mile Historic Park includes the historic 20-Mile House, which formerly served as the Pine Grove Post Office. The house served as a stage stop 20 miles south of Denver; four different stagecoach lines served it at one time. Another historic site is the Tallman/Newlin Cabin: it is Parker’s only surviving log cabin and the town’s only property listed in the Colorado State Register. The Parker Area Historical Society maintains the cabin.
The Parker Heritage Center displays artifacts, old photographs, a short film about Parker’s history, and a diorama of the town from the World War I era. A self-guided visit is possible when The Schoolhouse is open for programs. This condition is important for planning a visit and distinguishes the Heritage Center from the self-guided walking tour of downtown.
Cultural Offerings and Special Events
Auburn Hills Community Park has an educational area with six stations covering butterflies, weather, plant life cycles, wildlife, geology, and astronomy. The park covers three acres and also has a large multi-use sports field. The station topics range from observing nature to scientific questions.
Parker Arts offers continuing education programs for youth and adults in visual and performing arts, science, robotics, music, dance, culinary arts, and creative writing. Venues include the PACE Center and The Schoolhouse. Free concerts and events are frequently held at the PACE Patio and O'Brien Park, including performances by popular local bands and world music acts. The annual Parker Honey Festival brings local beekeepers and beekeeping organizations together at O'Brien Park. Check the festival and event dates for your trip.
