Red Bluff connects the Sacramento River with several distinct cultural and historical themes. Two river locations, an accessible trail section, a historic home, museums and venues offer different points of interest for a stay. The river is more than just the setting for individual attractions: at the Red Bluff Recreation Area, a boat ramp provides access to the water, while a 33-mile boating route describes the stretch of river between Balls Ferry and Red Bluff. When considering Red Bluff as a destination, you can weigh river-related activities and local history as separate areas of interest.

Sacramento River: Sites and Route

River Park is a site in Red Bluff on the Sacramento River. The Red Bluff Recreation Area is also in Red Bluff and borders the Sacramento River; a boat ramp on site provides access to the adjacent river. Wind, high water and river conditions can affect access by boat. Check conditions before setting out.

The 33-mile Sacramento River boating route runs between Balls Ferry and Red Bluff. This makes a longer stretch of river a distinct planning option alongside the access point at the Recreation Area. The boat ramp provides local access; the route between Balls Ferry and Red Bluff describes a larger stretch. These are different scales of travel planning on the same river.

A Short Accessible Trail Section

The Ide Adobe Knoll Trail is also near the Sacramento River. At 0.03 miles long, the trail is accessible; accessibility may change due to maintenance or conditions. Check conditions before your visit. Compared with the 33-mile boating route, the trail marks a short accessible section and therefore a different scale for planning around the river.

History and Culture in Red Bluff

The William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park is named after a leader of the short-lived Bear Flag Revolt. The name thus points to a specific person and a time-limited historical episode. The Kelly-Griggs House Museum offers a different connection: it is a historic Victorian home in Red Bluff dating to around 1880. Here, a building with an approximate date stands alongside the historic connection between the park’s name and the revolt. Both points of interest offer different perspectives on local history.

The Red Bluff Round-Up was established in the fall of 1921 as an accompanying event to the Tehama County Fair. Since 2000, the annual Wild Ride has been held at the end of the rodeo. Check the current program for a specific year. The Red Bluff Round-Up Museum preserves the history of the Round-Up for future generations. The event’s founding, the recurring Wild Ride and the museum’s mission to preserve its history offer three perspectives on the same topic: its origins, a feature of the rodeo program and the passing on of its history.

The State Theatre has 744 seats for all events; the seating arrangement may change for individual events. So if you have a specific event in mind, check the arrangement for that event.
