Cerritos brings together cultural discoveries and leisure activities, each with a different focus: art in the Sculpture Garden, local history in the library, performances, and opportunities for games and sports. First, consider whether you want to focus your stay more on art and history, the performing arts program, or physical activity.

Art and History at the Cerritos Sculpture Garden

The Cerritos Sculpture Garden offers both intimate areas and spacious open spaces. Visitors can experience art, nature, and quiet contemplation there. The garden was dedicated in 2006 as a gift to the community on its 50th anniversary. The combination of art and open space makes it a destination in its own right for anyone interested in sculpture or looking for a quieter alternative to performances and more active pursuits.

One striking feature is “The Elements”: the Sculpture Garden is currently the only place with a complete set of these sculptures. The four works stand in a reflecting pool, with a fountain at the center of the main plaza. Since art displays can change, it is a good idea to check before your visit whether the complete set is still on view.

The Library and Local Development

The Cerritos Library is considered the world’s first “Experience Library.” It offers museum-quality exhibits and an extensive art collection. This expands Cerritos’ cultural offerings with a place where exhibits and art are part of the library experience. Those interested in this combination can also learn about the community’s development in the Local History Room.

There are exhibit cases with changing displays, as well as a mural about the history of Dairy Valley and Cerritos. It shows the transformation from the successful agricultural town of Dairy Valley into the ideal suburb of Cerritos. This focus on history complements the art in the Sculpture Garden with a look at how the community has changed.

Performances and Outdoor Recreation

The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts offers performances in music, dance, and theater. Its program therefore spans a range of performing arts. If a particular performance is important to your trip, check the dates for your travel period. This will help you match the cultural offerings to your interests rather than planning a visit without a specific program in mind.

At Heritage Park, the island playground transports visitors to Boston in 1776. It includes a covered bridge, a ship, and a village with hidden passageways; flowing water features and slides complete the attraction. The park also features a bronze sculpture of Paul Revere. It represents the park’s theme, set during the American Revolutionary War.

For exercise, Cerritos Park East has a jogging path of about 0.2 miles that is lit at night. Five laps make a mile; the approximate length of each lap and the number of laps provide a clear guide to the running route. The Cerritos Sports Complex and Skate Park has a skatepark designed as a safe and challenging place for skateboarders and inline skaters of all experience levels.

Golf is another possible activity, but it requires some advance planning: reservations are required for the Iron-Wood Nine Golf Course. Visitors must book a tee time or call the Pro Shop. Unlike the running route and skatepark, golf therefore requires a separate reservation step. The attractions offer a range of experiences—from art and history to exercise and performances—and help you shape your stay around your own interests.
