A stay in Carson can be shaped around a range of interests: printing history, contemporary art, sports venues, and community recreation. The International Printing Museum, the University Art Gallery, and the parks each offer a distinct focus. If you are considering Carson as a place to stay, it helps to first think about which of these subjects you want to shape your visit.

Printing History and Contemporary Art

The International Printing Museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of printing equipment and related materials. Its focus is on equipment and materials associated with printing. This collection offers a different perspective from the contemporary art and design featured at the University Art Gallery at CSU Dominguez Hills.

The gallery serves the campus and the broader community as a laboratory for contemporary art and design practices, presenting exhibitions and programs. It is located on the first floor of La Corte Hall, Room A-107. This precise location is helpful for finding your way around campus. Since campus access rules may change, please check them before your visit.

Choose Sports Venues and Parks Based on Your Interests

Dignity Health Sports Park is located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, in Carson, California. It includes the 2,450-seat indoor velodrome known as the VELO Sports Center. Access to events varies according to the schedule. If you are planning a visit around an event, check your plans against the relevant schedule.

The city’s parks also differ in their facilities. Carson Park has a swimming pool and two lighted ball fields. Dominguez Park offers an aquatics and swim center. Hemingway Park has a different focus, with eight pickleball courts and a disc golf course. You can choose a park based on the activity you have in mind: swimming, ball sports, pickleball, or disc golf.

Another sports venue is the Fabela Chavez Boxing and Weightlifting Center. It was named in honor of Fabela Chavez, who was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993. The center’s listed hours are Monday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is closed on Sundays. Check the listed hours before your visit.

Transportation and Accommodation Planning

Long Beach Transit operates four fixed-route bus lines in Carson. Check the route and schedule that suit your specific destinations before traveling. You do not need to be a Carson resident to use the SportsComplex; membership terms may change.

Compare the location of a particular accommodation with the places you actually plan to visit. This lets you choose a hotel based on your own plans rather than treating all Carson options as alike.
