Fujairah is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. Nature and cultural heritage sit side by side here as you plan a trip: Wadi Wurayah in the Al Hajar Mountains, archaeological finds and historic forts. If you are looking for accommodation, it helps to sort these highlights and consider which ones you want to shape your trip.

Mountain Landscapes and Conservation

Wadi Wurayah is in the Al Hajar Mountains and is an important area for environmental and cultural conservation. In 2009, Decree No. 2 declared Wadi Wurayah the United Arab Emirates’ first “Mountain Protected Area.” In 2010, Wadi Wurayah National Park was added to the Ramsar Secretariat’s list of internationally important sites. The years refer to different events: the designation of Wadi Wurayah and the addition of the national park to the international list. Wurayah covers 192 square kilometers; boundaries may vary depending on the designation.

A report on the 2015–2016 field season described Wadi Wurayah National Park as closed to visitors to protect its fragile natural ecosystems. Check current access before your trip. Visitors to Wadi Al Wurayah are asked to leave it as they found it.

Archaeology and Forts

The Fujairah Museum uses archaeological finds to shed light on the history and cultural heritage of past generations. In the Heritage Village in the Madabb district of Fujairah City, models of traditional houses, tools and vessels illustrate Fujairah’s history and cultural heritage. The two sites offer different perspectives: archaeological finds are at the heart of the museum, while the Heritage Village features models and objects.

Fujairah Fort was used for defense; Al Hayl Fort overlooks several routes leading to the city. The forts draw attention to different historical aspects: their defensive role on the one hand and their connection to routes into the city on the other.

Excursions and Different Highlights

In Dibba, you can take day trips and overnight excursions aboard a traditional Arab dhow. The choice also comes down to timing: a daytime trip or an excursion with an overnight stay. Check dates and availability before making firm plans for your preferred option.

A Broader Look at the United Arab Emirates

Beyond Fujairah, there is the wider destination of the United Arab Emirates: Al Aqah Beach offers opportunities for water sports and marine life experiences. There are deep-sea diving and snorkeling areas near Al Aqah, as well as a coral reef with diverse marine fauna. This adds a broader maritime focus, while the places described above turn the spotlight on Fujairah.
