Hatta combines mountain trails and water activities with cultural themes from different eras. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether to focus on being active, water or history. This lets you weigh your interests without requiring a set order.
Mountain Trails: Hiking and Cycling
On November 11, 2024, Dubai Municipality put the length of mountain trails laid out in the Hatta area at more than 86 kilometres. The network comprises 21 cycling routes and 17 walking trails. The total length describes the extent of the trail network; the route figures also distinguish between types of activity. When planning, you can therefore first decide whether to focus on cycling or hiking. One specific hiking destination is Hatta Sign: visitors can hike up and enjoy views of Hatta along the way. The trail network describes the options by activity, while Hatta Sign is a named destination. As the total length may change, check the latest information on the trail network before your trip, then plan individual stages.
Water Activities at Hatta Dam
Kayaking is available on the lake formed by Hatta Dam. Water activities at the dam also include kayaks, Water Bikes, Yellow Boats, Donut Boats, Tour Boats and VIP Boats. This range sets the water-focused activities apart from cycling and walking trails. Offerings may change; check which activities are currently available before your visit.
Culture and History
Hatta Heritage Village, Hatta Fort and Hatta’s mosques illustrate rural life in past centuries. At Hatta Heritage Village, visitors can also learn about Arab culture and evidence of its former flourishing.
The falaj systems in Hatta are traditional water-supply systems that date back to the Iron Age. Hatta’s Bronze Age burial sites are more than 3,000 years old and contain pots and copper arrowheads, as well as rock paintings that depict life at the time.
Hatta 360 Observatory was built in the village in 1880 as a military tower to repel attackers from neighbouring emirates and countries. The timeline therefore spans the Bronze Age burial sites, the falaj systems dating back to the Iron Age and the tower built in 1880. The type of insight is also important when choosing a cultural topic: the Heritage Village, fort and mosques illustrate rural life; the falaj systems represent water supply, the burial sites feature artefacts and rock paintings, and the tower represents military defence.
Leisure at Hatta Hill Park
Hatta Hill Park has a children’s play area, running tracks and sports courts. These specific facilities give the park its own focus among Hatta’s leisure options.
