Orchards, Khmer architecture and waterfalls give Kantharalak District a variety of travel highlights. At the Ban Sam Tarom Community Agritourism Enterprise, you can sample fruit and buy it directly from the growers. Other places focus on Buddha images, temple architecture and nature trails.
Orchards and seasonal fruit
The Ban Sam Tarom Community Agritourism Enterprise is located in Moo 7, Tambon Trakaj, in Amphoe Kantharalak, Si Sa Ket Province. Visitors can tour the orchards and sample fruit, including several varieties of durian grown on volcanic soil, such as Monthong, Chanee and Kanyao. The availability of produce varies by season.
Buying directly from the fruit growers is also part of the offering: visitors can buy Si Sa Ket volcanic durian and other fruit there. Sampling and buying on-site offer different experiences—one is about tasting, the other about purchasing fruit directly from the growers. If durian is important to your plans, take seasonal availability into account.
Temples and Khmer architecture
Wat Phu Sam Sawan is located in Ban Sao Thong Chai, Tambon Sao Thong Chai, Amphoe Kantharalak, and is a branch of Wat Nong Pa Phong. The images there include Buddha figures on rocks and depictions of the Buddha’s hands and feet. This gives the site a different cultural focus from Prasat Don Tuan, whose description highlights its architectural form and materials.
Prasat Don Tuan is located in Ban Phum Srol, Tambon Bueng Malu, Amphoe Kantharalak. The small Khmer temple stands among large trees and was built around the 15th to 16th Buddhist centuries. Its single prang has a square ground plan, with each side measuring about seven metres, and stepped-back corners. It faces east and is built half of brick and half of laterite. Its nearly equal side lengths, orientation and use of different materials give the structure a clearly describable architectural form.
One nearby destination is Pha Mor E Daeng: the cliff is about 34 kilometres from Amphoe Kantharalak. It forms the edge of the Phanom Dong Rak mountain range and features ancient bas-reliefs. These details make it a nearby addition, rather than an attraction within the district.
Waterfalls and nature trails
Namtok Sida is a small natural waterfall in Ban Tanmuad (Khum Huai Khayung), Moo 7, Tambon Rung, Amphoe Kantharalak. Namtok Tat Hin, also known as Kaeng Tat Hin or Tat Huai Thip, is located in Ban Huai Thip, Tambon Rung. It is a natural attraction and swimming spot near the Phra Wihan mountain range. The two waterfalls offer different reasons to visit: Sida is known for its small natural cascade, while Tat Hin is also a swimming spot.
Phu La-O combines a small waterfall with a nature trail. The trail provides information about plants and the terrain. From the car park, a walking path of about two kilometres leads to the waterfall; trail conditions may vary. This gives you a concrete point of reference for planning, while the nature trail adds an educational focus to the visit.
Nature watching and accommodation search focus
Observing the night sky is another possible nature-related activity. Khao Phra Wihan National Park includes Amphoe Kantharalak and has open areas suitable for observing celestial bodies and deep-sky objects with the naked eye. Sky conditions vary by season. Keep this change in mind if you plan this activity.
The places and activities mentioned offer a range of themes for a trip to Kantharalak District. Choose based on which ones you want to shape your plans.
