History and culture take many forms in Sing Buri: one temple has a prang about eight wah high, a monument depicts eleven leaders as sculptures, and museums preserve historical objects and archaeological finds. Waterways, a riverside park, and experiences in nature and agriculture are also among the province’s attractions. You can choose to focus on temple history, local heritage, or outdoor exploration.
Temples and the memory of Bang Rachan
Wat Na Phra That has a prang about eight wah high, with additions in the early Ayutthaya style. On 8 March 2478 BE, the temple was registered as an ancient monument. Its architecture and historical classification offer two distinct points of interest: the striking prang and the temple’s status as a registered monument.
At Wat Pho Kao Ton, the focus is on history: in 2308 BE, the site served as a stronghold for the villagers of Bang Rachan in their resistance against the Burmese. Wat Pho Kao Ton was registered as an ancient monument in 2498 BE. The two dates mark different aspects—the site’s role at the time and its subsequent registration.
The Monument to the Heroes of Bang Rachan offers another way to remember the past. It depicts the camp’s eleven leaders as sculptures. A recurring event marks the anniversary of the heroes: it takes place from 4 to 6 February at the monument and in Bang Rachan Camp Park.
Collections between temples and archaeology
The Inburi National Museum is located at Wat Bot. Its collection includes the palanquin of King Rama V, large shadow-puppet figures, various religious fans, a green-stone Buddha statue, and an ancient sugarcane press. The museum also displays Dvaravati artifacts from Khu Mueang and products from the Mae Nam Noi pottery kilns. The collection therefore ranges from religious and historical objects to archaeological finds and pottery-kiln products.
The Museum of the Ancient City of Khu Mueang in Huai Chan, in In Buri District, offers a different archaeological perspective. Visitors can see and study archaeological sites, ancient monuments, and objects there. Wat Phikun Thong houses a museum dedicated to Luang Pho Phae, presenting his history and monastic belongings from the past to the present.
Religious art is another notable attraction: Wat Phra Non Chakkrasi Worawihan houses a revered reclining Buddha statue in the Sukhothai style, nearly 46 meters long. Its length and style offer a different perspective from the historical collections and monuments.
Water, nature and agriculture
Mae La is a natural waterway in Sing Buri Province. It flows through the three districts of In Buri, Bang Rachan, and Mueang Sing Buri. Another riverside landscape can be found at Mae La Maha Rachanuson Park: it is located in Thap Ya, extends across In Buri and Bang Rachan districts, and lies on the banks of the Lak Rong River.
Nature and archaeology experiences at Muang Boran Ban Khu Mueang include a nature trail and a forest walk to see medicinal plants and rare tree species. As an agricultural day-trip destination, Rai Saen Somboon offers activities such as rowing to gather lotus flowers, planting rice, catching shrimp, and fishing. The experiences offer different highlights: plants and trees in one place, and activities related to agriculture and water in the other.
Khu Khai Burma also combines historical context and recreation. The site is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period; according to historical evidence, the Burmese established it in 2127 BE as a camp for a campaign against Ayutthaya. It was later converted into a public park for local residents to enjoy.
Festivals and travel planning
The events calendar features two annual dates at different locations: Bang Rachan Heroes Day takes place from 4 to 6 February at the monument and in Bang Rachan Camp Park. In September, Sing Buri’s traditional longboat race is held on the Chao Phraya River and the Noi River. If you are choosing between these travel dates, they offer one option in February and another in September. Check the latest programs before your trip.
The Fish and Local Specialties Festival is associated with Mae La snakehead fish, considered a signature specialty of Sing Buri. As no specific date is given for the festival, check the latest dates in advance. A regular songthaew service runs between Sing Buri and Wat Phikun Thong; check the service locally before traveling.
