Namtok Takro Waterfall (น้ำตกตะคร้อ) is located in Khao Yai National Park, in the Ban Thung Pho area of Noen Hom Subdistrict, Mueang Prachin Buri District. This gives Prachinburi’s natural side a specific geographic anchor. Khao Yai National Park is part of Prachin Buri Province, which also offers numerous outdoor activities at waterfalls and rapids. Depending on the season and your personal preferences, these can be relaxing or exciting. In addition to natural sites, museums, archaeological sites, and religious landmarks also shape the province’s character.

Waterfalls and Protected Areas

Khao Yai National Park is part of the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex. In Thailand, this complex comprises five almost contiguous protected areas: Khao Yai, Thap Lan, Pang Sida, and Ta Phraya National Parks, as well as Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary. The forest complex is home to more than 800 animal species. This takes you from a specific waterfall in a national park to a larger network of protected areas.

Than Rattana Waterfall is also an interesting destination for exploring Prachinburi’s nature and activities. An older travel description places it in Noen Hom Subdistrict, with access along the Khao Yai–Prachin Buri route; check current trail conditions before visiting. An older activity description mentions a rappelling route over four tiers. The first tier, Pha Khmer, is about 60 meters high. Confirm on-site whether rappelling is currently available and what safety requirements apply.

Museum and Archaeological History

Prachinburi National Museum is located in Na Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Prachin Buri District, Prachin Buri Province. It showcases history, archaeology, art history, and antiquities from eastern Thailand. Its permanent exhibition is divided into five sections, including one about ancient Si Mahosot. A 1.70-meter-tall stone figure of Ganesha from Si Mahosot is displayed there. The museum officially opened on April 22, 1985. The exhibition thus combines a broad range of subjects with a clearly identified archaeological focus.

The Sra Morakot archaeological site is located in Khok Thai, Si Mahosot, Prachin Buri. The sacred well is within Archaeological Group No. 1. The site also features twin Buddha footprints, considered the oldest in Thailand. The area of the Ganesha shrine in Si Mahosot was a religious site for at least 800 years.

Religious Sites and Distinctive Buildings

Wat Kaeo Phichit is located on the right bank of the Bang Pakong River in the Mueang Prachin Buri municipal area. In Khao Ito Buddhist Park, there is a Dvaravati-style Buddha image protected by a Naga, described as the largest in Thailand. The two places have different points of interest: at Wat Kaeo Phichit, the riverside setting helps orient visitors, while Khao Ito Buddhist Park focuses on the religious image and its stylistic classification.

The Chao Phayu Building at Yusuksuwan Museum is designed like a lantern and offers visitors views of the surrounding landscape. If you plan to enjoy the view, confirm access on-site.
