Karon Beach is known for sand that makes a sound when you walk on it, and is regarded as a spot for watching sunsets. This brings together an audible beach detail and an evening scene. Nearby, Karon View Point adds a dedicated panoramic viewpoint; Wat Karon and the Karon Temple Trail complement the coastal setting with temple architecture and a path that passes by the temple.

Beach Sections and Coastal Views

Karon Beach is divided into Karon Noi Beach to the north and Karon Yai Beach to the south. The southern section runs in a straight line. The names provide a sense of location within the beach, while the description of its shape applies specifically to Karon Yai.

A Viewpoint with Two Names

Karon View Point is located near Karon. From there, you can see Kata Yai Beach, Kata Noi Beach and Karon Beach. The viewpoint was formerly called Kata View Point; both names refer to the same place. The distinction is useful for understanding the location: the View Point is a nearby viewpoint, while Karon Beach is part of the panorama. The former name is therefore a helpful clue if you come across the name Kata View Point.

Wat Karon: Temple, History and Architecture

Wat Karon is on Patak Road, about 500 metres from Karon Beach, and is also known as Wat Suwan Khiri Khet. In the late 1930s, the temple received the royal grant of Wisung Kham Sima. The temple includes an ordination hall, a preaching hall, a Dhamma hall and residential buildings for monks. Its Thai Buddhist architecture features intricate details. Several Buddha statues are located there, including a rare statue in black sapphire. The halls mentioned serve different religious functions; the residential buildings add the monks’ living quarters to the picture. The temple can thus be appreciated both for its architecture and its Buddha images.

A Path by the Temple and a Market Next Door

The Karon Temple Trail starts in the centre of Karon Beach and passes by Wat Karon. Next to the temple is a small community market where visitors can buy snacks and browse souvenirs. The trail and the market offer different activities: a walk on the one hand, and small purchases or a look at souvenirs on the other.

A Dated Surf Event

The Karon Fin Fest2 X Surftival, featuring surf competitions for Thai and international surfers, took place at Karon Beach from 16 to 17 August 2025.

Understanding the Beach, Viewpoint and Temple

For orientation, it helps to make a distinction: Karon Beach is both the beach with the features described and one of the three beaches in the panorama. Karon View Point, by contrast, is nearby. Wat Karon is also a separate nearby place; its connection to the beach is made clear by the approximate distance and the Karon Temple Trail. This helps distinguish the beach, viewpoint and temple as separate reference points.
