Chumphon can be explored through a wide variety of coastal and nature experiences. Mu Ko Chumphon National Park spans the five districts of Pathio, Mueang Chumphon, Sawi, Thung Tako and Lang Suan, and encompasses an archipelago of more than 40 islands. Activities in the national park include snorkeling, diving, swimming in the sea and kayaking. If you are looking for a focus for your trip, you can consider water activities, beaches, nature trails and cultural attractions as different aspects of the region.

Coast and Islands

Hat Thung Wua Laen in Pathio District is a beach with clear water, suitable for strolling and relaxing. Hat Lokam in Sawi District is about 500 meters long; its clear water and opportunities for swimming also make it a relaxing place to visit. The two beaches therefore offer different experiences: strolling is specifically highlighted at Hat Thung Wua Laen, while Hat Lokam is suitable for swimming.

On Ko Phithak, visitors can explore the island by bicycle, take boat trips and observe shallow-water corals. Ko Mattra is known for its many distinctive chicken crabs, which climb trees. Ko Phithak offers specific activities, while Ko Mattra is known for a distinctive animal feature. Mu Ko Chumphon National Park also offers a range of activities, from snorkeling and diving to swimming and kayaking.

Nature Trails and Viewpoints

At Khao Chao Mueang, a 200-meter-long footpath leads from the service parking area to the summit. There is also a nature trail where visitors can see rare plants. A 900-meter-long nature trail leads to the Khao Dinso viewpoint. From there, the 360-degree view extends west to the Myanmar–Thailand border and east across the Chumphon coast. The specific trail lengths provide a useful reference for planning, without specifying how long the walks take.

Khao Thalu viewpoint is 500 meters above sea level and offers views of a sea of mist; whether it can be seen depends on the weather. Buddha relics are also housed at Phra Phuttha That Chedi Si Chumphon on Khao Chao Mueang. The nature trail, summit path and viewpoints each showcase different aspects of the landscape and need not be combined into a single route.

Culture and Local Experiences

Chumphon National Museum features photographs, films, light-and-sound presentations, detailed information panels, models and scale reconstructions. These include a light-and-sound presentation about Typhoon Gay. Wat Phra That Sawi is registered as a national historic monument and is considered an important historic site in Chumphon Province.

In Pak Nam Lang Suan, visitors can learn about the way of life of a fishing community. Numerous restaurants serving fresh seafood line the road along the beach. The Phato District rafting festival takes place in January and February; the exact dates may vary. The headwaters of Khlong Phato are home to dusky langurs and hornbills.

If a festival or museum presentation is important to your plans, check the event dates or current presentation schedule before your trip. For activities in the national park, it is also advisable to check current conditions with the relevant providers.
