Flat and harness racing give Dielsdorf an unusual introduction: both types of racing take place at the Zurich-Dielsdorf racecourse. Race dates are seasonal; if you would like to include a race in your stay, check the event calendar before travelling. The Zurich-Dielsdorf Equestrian Centre was officially inaugurated on 20 May 1973.

Churches with Distinctive Architectural Histories

Dielsdorf’s churches also showcase different architectural approaches. St. Paul’s parish church was designed by Dr Justus Dahinden as a monumental tent-shaped structure and inaugurated on 1 April 1962. Inside the church are twelve apostle stones, with the apostles’ symbols arranged around crosses. The Reformed church has a different architectural history: it was built in 1866 under the supervision of state building inspector Johann Caspar Wolff. In 1893, its tower was raised by two storeys and given Neo-Gothic elements, a steep stepped gable and a roof turret. While the tent shape stands out at St. Paul’s, the later-added tower storeys and Neo-Gothic details define the architectural history of the Reformed church.

The municipality of Dielsdorf was first mentioned in 861 under the name Theolvesthoruf.

Trails on the Slopes of the Lägern

Dielsdorf lies on the eastern slope of the Lägern, at the entrance to the Wehntal valley. A hike to Boppelsen brings the changing landscapes and destinations to life: from Dielsdorf station, the route climbs steadily towards Regensberg, passing hedgerows and vineyards. Via Regensberg and the Mötschen pass, the hike connects Dielsdorf in the Wehntal valley with Boppelsen in the Furttal valley. The trail thus leads from its starting point in the Wehntal valley up the slope and through Regensberg to a destination in the Furttal valley.

The Jura Crest Trail offers another hiking option. From Dielsdorf station, it leads through vineyards up to Regensberg and then continues across the Lägern to Baden. One stage of the Jura Crest Trail starts in Dielsdorf and ends in Brugg. There are therefore different directions to choose from: Boppelsen, as the destination on the route connecting the Wehntal and Furttal valleys, or the Jura Crest Trail via Regensberg and the Lägern to Baden; one stage of this trail runs from Dielsdorf to Brugg.

More Activities

For exercise away from the hiking trails, the Erlen sports facility offers a range of its own. It has an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor pool. Facilities also include a beach volleyball court, table tennis, a play field, a children’s playground and a sandpit. After extensive renovation, the facility reopened in 2014.

Natural and artificial lakes and ponds in Dielsdorf and the surrounding area are also suitable for walking and jogging. The Dielsdorf Christmas market offers a different kind of experience, with a family programme, music and a lively market atmosphere. If you would like to include the market in your travel plans, check the specific event dates in advance.
