Jongny lies in the heart of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on Mont-Pèlerin and overlooking Lake Geneva. Vineyards, forests and an Alpine panorama define the village. There are several ways to enjoy your stay here: take in views across the lake basin, explore forest trails, arrange a tasting by appointment or discover traces of the past.
Lake Geneva Views and Forest Landscapes
At the reception area in Chatillon, walkers and visitors enjoy views across the Lake Geneva basin. Jongny has 15 hectares of communal forest. Beech and fir trees define the woodland of Bois de Reule, where hikers use the paths and trails. Together with the vineyards and Alpine panorama, they create a landscape in which the views and forest reveal different sides of the village.
Hiking Trails and the Refuge de Reule
The Refuge de Reule can be rented from April to the end of October. It is fully equipped, with a kitchen, dishwasher and grill, and can accommodate up to 45 people. You can reach the refuge on VMCV bus line 13, getting off at the La Chaudette stop. Regional line 213 connects Vevey, Jongny, Monts-de-Corsier and Châtel-St-Denis. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable in advance.
The Marais de la Tuilière nature reserve is also nearby: it is about a ten-minute walk from Chaudette. The area is maintained every year to preserve its rich biodiversity. This makes it easy to add a nearby nature reserve to a visit to the forest in Jongny, without treating the two places as a single route.
Vineyards and Tastings
The vineyards of Domaine des Allours lie on terraces below the village. The Domaine offers product tastings by appointment at Rue des Bourgeois 8 in Jongny. It was founded in the 1920s by Emmanuel Taverney. If you would like to include a tasting in your stay, arrange your visit in advance. The terraced location of the vineyards and the appointment-only tastings offer two practical planning details: viticulture is part of the landscape, while a tasting requires a scheduled appointment.
Roman Traces and Local History
A bell dating from 1504 comes from the former Saint-Laurent chapel and still rings today in the bell tower of the former college. It was cast by Pierre Mouron of Chardonne, and its Latin inscription also bears the date 1504. The bell is protected as a historic monument; it was entered in the cantonal inventory on 21 August 2018.
Archaeological evidence suggests that Jongny has been a passageway between the RhĂ´ne Valley (Rauraci) and Avenches, the capital of Roman Helvetia, since Roman times. The Sentier romain and the Chemin romain may be remnants of this route.
Further historical clues relate to the chapel itself and a building near Place du Molard. A chapel dedicated to Saint Lawrence was in use at the beginning of the 14th century and was under the parish church of Corsier. The building «La Bourse des Pauvres» was originally used to house citizens in need.
The artisans’ Christmas market is also part of the village’s more recent history: in December 2025, it was held for the 25th time. At the 24th edition in 2024, more than 30 artisans presented their creations.
