In Savigny, circular trails with different walking times meet publicly accessible forests, Étang du Grézaley and regional establishments. For planning a hike, several routes provide specific information on distance and duration; other differences include the views and points of interest along the trails.

Hiking routes with different time ranges

Circular route No. 3, “La Forge–Tantérine”, starts in the centre of Savigny. The route is 7.8 kilometres long and takes about two to two hours and 15 minutes. Along the way, it offers views of the Fribourg, Vaud and French Alps. This circular route therefore combines a clear indication of the time required with views across several Alpine regions.

Circular route No. 4, “Les Refuges”, follows forest paths and roads. The nine-kilometre route is listed as taking about two hours and 15 minutes to two and a half hours. Its points of interest include three shelters belonging to different municipalities. Circular route No. 5, “Borne à l’Ours”, also follows forest paths and roads; it is seven kilometres long and takes about one hour and 45 minutes to two hours. Its points of interest include La Borne à l’Ours and the Crêt Tornire viewpoint.

A direct comparison helps with time planning: No. 5 is shorter than No. 4 and, according to the stated time ranges, also takes less time. Those primarily looking for views will find them on No. 3; named points of interest feature on routes No. 4 and No. 5.

Another signposted and documented circular route runs through the Savigny area. It was created to mark the municipality’s 200th anniversary, opened on 20 April 2026 and is available on SuisseMobile. Eight information panels with QR codes link to short videos and explanatory texts. A special December 2014 issue of “Le Savignolan” also features five walking routes through Savigny; the Société de développement de Savigny supported their creation.

Forests, pond and regional setting

Savigny’s forests are open to the public for leisure activities. Étang du Grézaley is considered an ecologically significant area. The pond and its surroundings contribute to the reproduction and preservation of a substantial amphibian population. The area’s natural appeal thus ranges from leisure opportunities in the forest to an important habitat for amphibians.

In the wider region, hiking trails run through Lavaux between Lutry and Vevey, passing through vineyards, along the lake and to viewpoints. The terraced vineyards of Lavaux are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Route des Grands Crus de Lavaux is divided into eight stages. Savigny itself is in the Lavaux-Oron district in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland.

Local history and culture

The place name Savigny first appears in 1228 as “Savinie” in the Cartulaire de Lausanne. A decree of the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud, dated 17 May 1823, legally established Savigny as an independent municipality by dividing the municipality of Lutry. The deed of separation between Lutry and Savigny was signed on 22 March 1825.

A current cultural offering is also relevant when planning a visit: Savigny participates in the Carte cultissime, which provides young people aged 18 to 25 with free access to culture. Those in this age group can take this offering into account when planning cultural activities.

Regional products and getting there

The Arpège building at La Branche houses a restaurant open to the public. La Branche’s Épicerie sells, among other things, fruit, vegetables and milk from the site’s farm, helping to promote short supply chains. La Grangette – Laiterie de Savigny offers a selection of Vaud products as well as cheese cut to order at the cheese counter. As opening details may change, check them before your visit.

Bus route 10.360 connects, among other places, Epalinges, Lausanne, Mézières, Servion, Mollie-Margot, Savigny and La Sallaz, and serves Savigny. Check the current timetable before travelling.
