Arbarey is a locality in the municipality of Saxon. Several cycling and mountain biking routes include the village in different ways: the route from Saxon to Col du Lein and Pierre Avoi blue pass through Arbarey; the gravel route descends there after crossing the mountain passes, and Pierre Avoi red passes through Arbarey on its way to two passes. Arbarey is therefore part of several route itineraries with different points of reference. For planning your trip, you can use Saxon, Le Châble railway station, and the respective pass and route features mentioned. You can arrange these details according to the route profile you want to shape your stay around.

The cycling route from Saxon to Col du Lein

The cycling route to Col du Lein from Saxon initially follows the Torrent des Croix. It then passes through Sapinhaut and L'Arbarey before continuing through the alpine meadows. The sequence from the torrent, through the two hamlets, to the alpine meadows gives the route a clear geographical structure. The final section has a specific combination of surface and bicycle type: the last 700 metres are unpaved but suitable for a road bike. This lets you take both the route sequence and a specific note about the surface into account when choosing a route.

Gravel route from Le Châble

The Le Châble–La Tzoumaz gravel route starts at Le Châble railway station. After crossing Col du Tronc and Col du Lein, it descends to Arbarey. It then follows a forest track with views of the Rhône Valley. The starting point, mountain-pass crossings, descent and subsequent section of the route provide different reference points for planning. The views of the Rhône Valley are from the forest track beyond Arbarey. If you choose this route, you can follow its course using these stops rather than relying on the route name alone.

Pierre Avoi blue and red

The two Pierre Avoi routes also pass through Arbarey, but have different listed features. Pierre Avoi blue passes through the village before reaching Col du Lein. It is moderately difficult and 39.3 kilometres long, so both the distance and difficulty level are specified for this ride. Pierre Avoi red is designated as a mountain biking route and an e-mountain biking route. It passes through Arbarey on its way to the passes of Col du Lein and Col des Planches. You can therefore compare them using different criteria: for blue, the length and difficulty level are given; for red, the cycling category and sequence of passes. Which details matter most to you depends on what you want to base your route choice on.

Choose your accommodation based on your route

When looking for a holiday apartment, your preferred route is a useful starting point. The route to Col du Lein is described as starting in Saxon, while the gravel route begins at Le Châble railway station. If you are considering several routes, check their starting points separately before assessing where to stay. This way, you can base your choice on a specific ride without assuming that all routes start from the same place.
