La Tzoumaz combines a high-altitude setting with a range of travel interests. In winter, the connection to the 4 Vallées ski area and a seasonal, weather-dependent toboggan run take centre stage; forest trails, nature experiences and other activities round out the options. This lets you start planning your trip based on the season and your preferred focus.

Altitude and settlement layout

La Tzoumaz lies between Martigny and Sion, high above the left bank of the Rhône. The altitude ranges from 1,100 to 1,700 m above sea level; the village centre is at 1,510 m above sea level. The widely scattered, sparsely populated settlement extends across an area of around 4 km² with little woodland. It is bordered to the north by the steep, wooded slopes of Grand Veron, to the east by the mountain stream La Fare, to the south by the Forêt des Etablons and to the west by the mountain stream Torrent d’Ecône.

Winter: ski area and toboggan run

La Tzoumaz is connected to the 4 Vallées ski area. In winter, two gondola lifts connect Verbier and La Tzoumaz for pedestrians; there is also a gondola and ski connection. These connections are subject to schedules and conditions. The Piste de luge de la Tzoumaz has an elevation difference of 711 m between Savoleyres and La Tzoumaz and is seasonal and weather-dependent. From Verbier, take bus no. 1 to the Savoleyres stop, then the Savoleyres gondola lift to reach the run. Check the latest operating hours and conditions for the lifts and bus connections before travelling.

Irrigation channels, forest and trail connections

The Sentier des Sens is a fun, educational 5.3 km circular trail through the forest of La Tzoumaz. It follows the historic «Bisse de Saxon», a water channel built by hand around 1850, and includes an interactive exhibition about local fauna. The trail is accessible to people with reduced mobility and to pushchairs. While the Sentier des Sens is a circular route through the forest, the Chemin des Bisses runs from Martigny (Col des Planches) to La Tzoumaz; conditions may vary by season.

Nature spots and other trails

The Maison de la Forêt offers observation towers on stilts, a botanical garden with medicinal plants, and a play and adventure area. The Fondation Domus site in La Tzoumaz is a social agritourism destination and is open to the public; visiting hours may vary seasonally. There is a children’s playground next to the Buvette, and access conditions may also vary by season. The site also includes the «Sentier des découvertes» circular trail.

Biking, pump track and outdoor drawing

The La Tzoumaz Bike route is designated for mountain bikes and e-bikes. It starts in La Tzoumaz at 1,506 m and heads towards Croix de Coeur at 2,173 m. Check route conditions before setting out. The La Tzoumaz pump track is 65 m long and can be used with a bicycle, scooter, roller skates or skateboard. At Espace nature, the Parcours du Crayon Vert offers the chance to learn to draw outdoors.
