The only surviving bakehouse among the former bakehouses of Bellwald and its hamlets stands in Ried. It was built in 1698 and consecrated by Bishop Franz Joseph Supersaxo on 10 September 1704. The ossuary chapel dates from 1733/1734 and is now used as a funeral chapel.
More recent ways of presenting local life are also part of the cultural offering: Cinema aB explores the lives and way of life of parents and grandparents in Bellwald. An information point in front of the tourist office provides information about the UNESCO World Heritage site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch, its culture and history, and its natural landscapes. Two Suspension Bridges, Different Routes
The Goms Bridge is 280 metres long and 1.40 metres wide. It connects the hiking areas of Bellwald and Ernen and is passable year-round for hikers, wheelchair users, and cyclists. The Aspi-Titter suspension bridge has different specifications: it is 160 metres long, crosses the 120-metre-deep Weisswasser Gorge, and connects Bellwald with Fieschertal. It is open every year from 1 July to 31 October and can only be reached and crossed on foot. The bridges are easy to distinguish by their locations and access information: the Goms Bridge connects two hiking areas and is passable year-round, while the Aspi-Titter suspension bridge provides a seasonal foot crossing over the Weisswasser Gorge. Circular Walks, Adventure Trails and Longer Hikes
The 5.3-kilometre “top gestärkt” Solution Trail starts at Cinema aB on the village square. It passes through Ried, Eggen, and Bodmen before reaching the Goms Bridge in Fürgangen. Another loop is the four-kilometre treasure hunt: it starts at the Outdoor Park, goes through the village, and returns to the starting point. A family trail runs from the village to Ried and features seven activity stations, including a wooden marble run and a bowling alley.
The Fairy Tale Trail has an approximate duration to help you plan: it takes about two hours and is suitable for pushchairs. The Stoneman Glaciara Hike is quite different in terms of the challenge described: from Bellwald, a strenuous climb leads to Märjelensee on the eastern edge of the Aletsch Glacier. Winter Activities and Getting There
In winter, visitor activities include winter hiking, alpine skiing, and a ski school. Bellwald has more than 13 kilometres of signposted snowshoe trails through snow-covered forests and across open slopes. The Fleschen Trail runs from Bellwald to Fleschen and back: it starts at the valley station of the Richinen chairlift, passes through snow-covered larch forests and open terrain, and ends at the Fleschen mountain restaurant, before returning to Bellwald. By public transport, travel from Brig on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway to Fürgangen-Bellwald station; the Fürgangen aerial cableway then takes visitors directly to the village centre.
