Beggingen lies at the foot of the Randen and about two kilometres from the German border. The surrounding area is considered a varied destination for hiking and cycling. This makes the village a good choice for a stay where you can combine outdoor activities with nature and culture. Excursions offer different highlights, from scenic views and plant life to hiking trails and local history.

Views and hikes

From the viewpoint above Luken, the view stretches across the Black Forest to the Feldberg. Rare lady’s slipper orchids grow there; their visibility varies depending on the season. Spring and autumn offer many sunny days and beautiful nature for outdoor activities. If you choose your excursion according to the season, observing the plants is therefore a variable highlight; the panoramic view is another reason to visit.

The Turmland Schaffhausen hike starts in Beggingen village. At Luckenhalde, you can pause on the ascent to look for fossils; finds are not guaranteed. The hike passes a tower with a platform 20 metres high, offering views across the Hegau, the Black Forest and the Swiss Pre-Alps. A spiral staircase with exactly 100 steps leads to the top. At Zelgli, there is a barbecue area and a play meadow along the route; maintenance and availability may vary.

You can take a circular walk with your family in the anniversary forest. A marked hiking trail also leads from the Beggingen, Dorf terminus in the direction of Schleitheimer Randenturm. The walk takes around 50 minutes and ends with a steep ascent. The two marked trails have different highlights: the Turmland Schaffhausen hike focuses on fossil hunting and the observation tower, while the approximate walking time and steep final ascent are important planning details for the route towards Schleitheimer Randenturm. Trail conditions may change; check them before setting out.

Beggingen has good public transport connections for hikes to various viewpoints. Check the specific connection for your travel dates.

Cultural heritage and local orientation

In the KGS inventory, as of 1 January 2026, the Reformed Church is listed as a Category B cultural asset; the Kehlhof building group is also listed there as a protected Category B cultural asset. The Schlatterhof is listed there as a Roman country estate. The Weinwarm / Schwedenschanze archaeological site is listed because of Bronze Age finds and an earthwork of unknown date. The historical themes can be distinguished by period: the Schlatterhof represents a Roman country estate, the finds at the archaeological site date from the Bronze Age, while the age of the earthwork remains unknown. The church and Kehlhof add to these themes as Category B cultural assets.

Local amenities include a village shop, the Gasthaus Sonne, farm-direct sales and local businesses. Together with the hiking and cultural highlights, these offer further ways to connect with local life during your stay.
