Beringen lies in the Klettgau, west of Schaffhausen, at the foot of the Randen hills. Hills, fields and forests surround the village. Highlights for a stay include the Wiiweg, the local history museum, the Gwaagge-Badi, and walks, hikes or cycling tours through the varied landscape.
The Wiiweg leads through the vineyards
The Beringen–Löhningen Wiiweg is a 3 km themed trail; the route takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. It starts at the Beringen, Höhenweg public transport stop, leads through the vineyards and ends at the Trotte in the centre of Löhningen. Grapes are processed into wine there. Along the way, visitors can learn about winegrowing and related topics. The route thus combines its winegrowing highlights with a specific path from the starting point in Beringen to the destination in Löhningen. Check the route information before setting out.
Local history at the museum
The Beringen Local History Museum uses its collection and documents to present the cultural history of Beringen and the neighbouring villages of Guntmadingen and Löhningen. It is housed in the former residential tower of the Hün von Beringen, known as the “castle”. Since 1996, the museum has also used a former tithe barn dating from 1624. Both the residential tower and the former barn are therefore part of the museum’s architectural setting.
The collection’s historical objects cover traditional crafts, agriculture, household life, the church, the military and the fire brigade. The extension to Beringen Castle was also adapted to preserve the treasures of the past and explicitly reflect them. The castle also houses Ursula and Richard Schneider’s collection of “mechanical musical instruments”. The museum thus brings together the cultural history of the village and its neighbouring communities with several specifically named areas of the collection.
Gwaagge-Badi
The Gwaagge-Badi is the first swimming facility in the canton to use natural water treatment. It has an access ramp for wheelchair users, and the entire facility has been adapted for wheelchair use. Natural water treatment and adaptations for wheelchair users are two key features to consider when choosing your activities.
