Gorgier brings together a range of travel interests: swimming at a pebble beach, following a trail to menhirs or exploring historic buildings. The destinations below can help you decide whether you would rather spend your stay by the water, on a marked route, or exploring architecture and local history.
Pebble beach and bathing pavilion
Plage de Gorgier - Chez-le-Bart is a small pebble beach with a lawn for relaxing and swimming. It offers a distinct focus alongside the town’s trails and historic sights.
The bathing pavilion in Chez-le-Bart was built in 1907 after a fire destroyed its predecessor. The municipality of Gorgier later moved it to the harbour at Chez-le-Bart and had it restored in 2000. The pavilion stands on a wooden, pagoda-shaped platform and houses separate changing rooms for men and women. Its design and history make it a distinctive example of local architecture.
Menhir trail: walking time and getting there
La ballade des Menhirs du Devens is 5 km long and takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to walk. The trail is classified as easy. However, the forest roads and paths are not suitable for pushchairs. Sights along the route include the Menhir du Pré-Devens, the Menhirs tronqué and the Grand menhir de la forêt du Devens.
You can travel to the trail by train and postbus to Gorgier-Saint-Aubin station. From there, it is 2 km on foot, or about 40 minutes. Allow for this walk in addition to the tour’s walking time, and check the timetable before setting off.
Washhouse, menhirs and castle
Lavoir de Brénaz is a protected public washhouse in Gorgier. It was first mentioned in the community’s accounts in 1668, restored in 1986, and placed under protection on 16 March 1987. The rectangular structure has eight oak posts on chamfered limestone bases and a two-part cement basin. Its history can also be seen in the specific features of its construction.
The three Pierres du Guénégou are partially toppled menhirs at the foot of a hill that may have been artificially created. At Château de Gorgier, by contrast, the focus is on Neo-Gothic architecture: the picturesque residence sits on a rocky outcrop surrounded by two streams and overlooking the lake. The washhouse, menhirs and castle offer different points of interest for anyone curious about architectural styles, traces of the past or megalithic stones.
Playground between the villages
Place de jeux de Gorgier is set in green surroundings on elevated ground between the villages of Chez-le-Bart and Gorgier. It offers play equipment for younger and older children, as well as a hammock, benches and a picnic table. Facilities may change; check the latest information before your visit.
