For a stay in Hochdorf, local history and nature observation offer different points of focus. Marked buildings, fountains and cultural sites bring the town’s history to life; in the Ronfeld, habitats and wildlife observation take centre stage. You can shape your trip around whichever theme interests you most.

Historic Buildings and Walking Tour

In Hochdorf, 31 historic buildings and two fountains are marked with simple information boards. The boards are part of a municipal project to share the area’s cultural heritage. A group of buildings comprising the parish church, the Chapel of Our Lady, the rectory, the Pfrundhäuser and the former schoolhouse brings together architectural heritage spanning five centuries.

The Hochdorf Historic Walking Tour is a 2.82-kilometre circular route on foot. It starts and ends at the town hall and passes historic buildings and fountains. In the Unterdorf district, the former chocolate factory, now Manor, is particularly striking. The former “Au Louvre” department store also remains almost unchanged.

Church, Museum and Braui

The Reformed Church of Hochdorf was built in the Heimatstil style and opened on Luzernstrasse in 1929. Its rose window by Giuseppe Scartezzini, a student of Giacometti, tells the story of Jesus calming the storm on the lake. The interior also features windows designed by Romano Galizia, a tapestry, a communion table and a lectern.

The Hochdorf Local Museum is located in the basement of the Avanti schoolhouse. It presents local history and exhibits from the Hochdorf region, dating from the 19th century to the present day. The focus is on the town’s development, as well as local, industrial, economic, craft and family histories. There are also artworks by artists from the Seetal, photography and the Hochdorf photo archive, religious everyday life and education.

The Braui Photo Staircase, on the stairs to the regional library, is a place for photographic encounters with Hochdorf; a new exhibition is shown there every eight months. For more than a hundred years, the Braui Tower shaped the village skyline; today it is used mainly for cultural purposes.

Nature Observation in the Ronfeld

The Ronfeld includes two large flood basins with fluctuating water levels, species-rich flower meadows and newly planted trees and shrubs. This habitat supports a wide variety of animal and plant species and serves as a stopover for rare migratory birds. From the observation hut, you can watch white storks, kingfishers, grey herons and dragonflies feeding or hunting. There are five marked nature observation stations between Hochdorf and Baldegg.

Swimming, E-Biking and Getting There

The Baldegg lido lies in the southeast of Lake Baldegg. Facilities include a four-lane swimming pool, a non-swimmer pool, a children’s splash area and a diving tower. As operating conditions can change, check the current status of the facilities before your visit.

For a longer outing, the Seetal Hills and Lakes Route offers a different scale from the 2.82-kilometre walking loop: the e-bike route between Hochdorf and Lenzburg is 59.38 kilometres long and has a moderate difficulty rating.

You can reach Lucerne from Hochdorf by S-Bahn in 25 minutes; check the current timetable before travelling. Bus routes from Hochdorf serve Hohenrain, Römerswil and Beromünster. The nextbike bicycle-sharing system also supplements bus, train and private transport in Hochdorf. Routes, timetables and nextbike availability can change; check these details before setting off.
