Vnà is a compact village on a steep slope on the southern flank of Piz Arina, at an altitude of about 1,600 m above sea level. The village museum, the «dicziunari rumantsch» and the Reformed church give the place several clearly defined cultural themes; hiking and mountain biking routes add to the outdoor options. If you are considering Vnà as a place to stay, you can weigh up village culture and trails through the landscape as different focuses for your stay.

Village Culture and Townscape

The village museum now houses more than 400 exhibits. It displays works by various artists, as well as a range of collectibles. The «dicziunari rumantsch» lets visitors compare expressions in Romansh, Italian, German and English. Its signs are displayed on houses throughout the village, spreading these language comparisons across the area. Agriculture has a visible and lasting influence on life in this Romansh-speaking village.

The Reformed church in Vnà is a listed building protected by the Canton of Graubünden. During its restoration, murals were uncovered and conserved in 1963; the church has a capacity of about 80 people. Vnà is also listed in the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. This brings together two distinct levels of cultural heritage: the church’s cantonal heritage protection and the village’s listing in the townscape inventory.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

Vnà offers attractive hiking and mountain biking routes. The Vnà Panorama Trail winds through the forest, with almost uninterrupted views of Vnà, the valley and the Engadine mountains. The trail starts at the «Vnà, Jalmèr» PostBus stop.

The winter hiking trail from Vnà to Zuort runs along the edge of the forest through a snow-covered terraced landscape and climbs gently into Val Sinestra. From Sinestra, another route crosses the suspension bridge to Zuort and returns to Vnà. Griosch and Zuort are in Val Sinestra and are considered oases of peace and strength. When comparing the trails, the starting point and season are helpful guides: the Panorama Trail starts at the stop in Vnà, the winter route leads to Zuort, while the trail over the suspension bridge starts in Sinestra and returns to Vnà. Check the current winter trail conditions before setting out.

Part of the ascent route to Piz Arina passes through a wildlife refuge zone; stay on the marked route. Observe the current local regulations for protecting the wildlife refuge zone.

Getting There and Cinevnà

Vnà is served hourly by PostBus from Scuol, staziun, towards Martina. At Ramosch, you need to change for Vnà, Jalmèr. Check the current timetable before travelling. From the Engadinerstrasse H27 at Ramosch, Vnà is a five-minute drive away.
