Wyssachen lies about 20 km south of Langenthal on the stream of the same name, in a side valley of the Langete. The village consists of the two parts of DĂĽrrenbĂĽhl and Wyssachen. Walking activities include three Helsana trails and the Crime Mystery Game, which is available year-round. The Herzschlaufe Napf, a longer cycling discovery route around the Napf, is another option. The range therefore extends from local circular walks to a route with three daily stages.
Circular routes through the hilly landscape
The three Helsana trails are circular routes, with the start and finish in the village of Wyssachen. You can jog, power walk, hike or stroll on all of them. The routes lead through Wyssachen’s unique hilly landscape. They are 3.73 km, 7.78 km and 11.47 km long. The middle loop is therefore between the two outer distances, while the listed activities are the same on all three. You can choose according to the distance you want to cover.
A Crime Mystery Game on foot
The Crime Mystery Game offers something different: this adventure, played on foot, is available year-round and around the clock. Allow about three hours for the investigation. Participation is free, and no reservation or advance registration is required. When planning your day, the focus is therefore on setting aside an approximate time for the investigation, rather than choosing between several trail lengths.
The Herzschlaufe Napf
The Herzschlaufe Napf is a 155 km discovery route around the Napf, covering three daily stages. It is signposted in both directions. On the stretch to Wyssachen, the route becomes more rustic; the Napf feels close by. Compared with the Helsana trails and their local circular routes, the Herzschlaufe is a much longer cycling route. Its stages offer a different time frame from the individually specified circular routes.
Church and building history
Wyssachen Church is a hall church with a recessed polygonal choir and was built by Fritz Schärer in 1946. The choir is set back from the hall and has a polygonal shape. Inside, there is a stained-glass cycle by Leo Steck, as well as additional stained-glass windows by Paul Zehnder. The architecture and stained glass highlight different aspects of church design: the articulated structure and the artistic decoration.
A two-storey timber-frame building was moved about 50 metres to a new location. Blind arcades define its show façades. An open gallery runs around the upper storey, with some balustrade openings arranged in floral groups. The balustrades of the attic galleries are decorated with wooden balusters. The building can thus be described in greater detail through its façades, galleries and balustrades.
History in the wider area
The area around Eriswil and Wyssachen is considered scenically attractive and has a significant historical past. Among the oldest monastic estates in the Oberaargau was the property of St. Gall Abbey around the Meierhof and Kelnhof in Rohrbach. This history links the view of Wyssachen with the wider area without treating the places mentioned as one and the same.
