Trubschachen in the Emmental combines a range of themes for planning your trip: Kambly’s history at its production site, Emmental cheese, village history, and routes for hiking and cycling. During your stay, you can choose between a historical walking tour of about 45 minutes, longer hikes and cultural stops.

Village History and Craftsmanship

The historical walking tour through the village centre takes about 45 minutes. The Reformed church was built in 1891/92 in the neo-Gothic style, based on plans by Bernese architect Rudolf Ischer. During its renovation in 1968, three choir windows by artist Fred Stauffer and two new bells were added.

The village schoolhouse also tells the story of the area: it dates from 1881 and, from 1964 onwards, was a regular venue for the nationally acclaimed “Kunstausstellungen Trubschachen” art exhibitions. In recognition of the successful renovation of the schoolhouse, the Canton of Bern’s Heritage Conservation Commission awarded the municipality a special prize in 2026. The local history museum is housed in the Stöckli and Spycher of a typical Emmental farmstead dating from the 18th century, which also includes a farmhouse. The church, schoolhouse and farmstead thus represent different facets of local architectural and cultural history.

Kambly, Fine Biscuits and the Explorer Trail

Kambly has been producing its biscuits in Trubschachen in the Emmental since it was founded in 1910. The Kambly Experience offers an interactive introduction to the art of making fine biscuits. The Kambly Explorer Trail follows a stream into the countryside; one of the stops in the village is the Himmelhaus. Visitors solve simple tasks and puzzles in a colourful, child-friendly illustrated booklet. The introduction to biscuit-making and the puzzles along the trail offer two different ways to discover the world of Kambly.

Hiking, Wooden Bridges and Views

The Wooden Bridge Trail covers around 23 kilometres and features 18 wooden bridges, five of them in Trubschachen. Its hiking and cycling paths are flat and well maintained. The riverbanks are home to wildlife and plant habitats; they also have barbecue spots and places to swim. Trubschachen also has an extensive network of hiking trails and a wide variety of animal and plant species.

Two hikes starting from Trubschachen station can help you plan your time: it takes about an hour to reach Bäregghöhe. The hike via Folz, Rigenen and Schynenalp takes around two hours and 40 minutes. Both times are for routes with the same starting point but different time requirements. Cycling in Trubschachen offers views of the Emmental, the Alps and the Jura.

Cheese and Planning Your Outings

HĂĽpfenboden dairy produces two wheels of Emmentaler AOC every day. It is located on the Trans Swiss Trail and offers hikers and cyclists a place to stop and rest. The Kambly Experience Tour passes the HĂĽpfenboden mountain cheese dairy; in the village of Trubschachen, it also passes the village dairy. This makes it possible to include dairies as part of different local themes and tours without treating the tours as one and the same.

On request, HĂĽpfenboden dairy offers tours for groups of at least four and no more than 25 people on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Advance booking is required; when you enquire, confirm your preferred date and the size of your group.

The Kambly train runs between Bern, Trubschachen and Lucerne, connecting places to visit along the route. The journey to Trubschachen takes 47 minutes from Lucerne and 34 minutes from Bern. Check the timetable for your specific trip so you can coordinate your arrival with your planned visits.
