In Vårgårda, you can plan your stay around a clear focus: cycling, hiking, art or swimming. The routes vary in mode of transport and length; there are also central destinations in town, a seasonal outdoor pool and cultural offerings. This lets you base your plans on a specific idea, rather than trying to combine every theme into a fixed itinerary.

Getting around and swimming

Badet, Vårgårda’s swimming pool, is centrally located in Centrumhuset, about 100 metres from the railway station. The outdoor pool at Tånga Hed is within walking and cycling distance of Vårgårda town centre; its opening schedule may vary by season. Check the current opening times before visiting the outdoor pool. For planning purposes, the distinction is useful: a centrally located indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor pool offer two different options.

Galleri 33 is centrally located at Kungsgatan 33. It is the venue of Vårgårda Konstförening and hosts exhibitions and exhibition openings. If you want to visit a particular exhibition or opening, check the dates in advance.

Cycling: long-distance route or downhill runs

Ljungleden is a 170-kilometre regional cycling route from Gothenburg to Falköping. Before reaching Vårgårda, the route follows small country roads through beautiful surroundings. Västtåget stops at several points along Ljungleden. If you plan to travel by train for part of the route, check the timetable and options for bringing a bicycle in advance.

The downhill runs at Kesberget Bikepark offer a different cycling experience: it has around ten different runs and several challenging downhill trails. This makes it possible to distinguish between two different focuses: a longer regional cycling route or downhill runs in a bike park. The route details provide a concrete starting point for your own planning, without requiring you to combine them into one route.

Hiking and nature

Gotaleden is a 99-kilometre hiking trail between Gothenburg and Vårgårda. Stage 12, Horla–Vårgårda, offers a different kind of orientation: it is easy to walk and runs mostly along unpaved paths through green fields and a landscape rich in wildlife, crossing the river Säveån. When considering different hiking routes, you can distinguish between a longer trail with two named endpoints and a described stage with specific landscape features.

There are benches and rest areas along the Natur- och Kulturstigen Vårgårda. Nearby, in the Yxnås area between Alingsås and Vårgårda, there is a visitor car park north of Kärtared. The trail into the nature reserve starts across the road; you will reach the reserve boundary after about 300 metres. Check local conditions before travelling there.

Art and cycling history

The exhibition “Dessa fantastiska Fåglums” is about four cycling brothers who conquered the world of cycling. It includes the brothers’ prizes, trophies and awards. Together with the exhibitions and openings at Galleri 33, the themes of art and cycling history provide a cultural counterpoint to the trails and outdoor activities. When planning your stay around your interests, you can decide whether to focus more on routes, nature or culture.
