Ambjörnarp offers several different ways to plan your trip: you can focus on a draisine ride along an old railway line, a lakeside trail, or a garden and church art. This lets you consider active outings, the water and local history as different focal points for your stay. To help you choose, there are some specific differences to consider: the routes vary in length, advance booking is required for the draisine, and the options range from the lakeshore to details of church art.

Ride a Draisine on the Old Railway Line

The Ambjörnarp–Sjötofta draisine route follows the old Landeryd–Falköping railway line. The one-way route from Ambjörnarp to Sjötofta is 7 km long. Draisine rentals are arranged through Ambjörnarps Byalag; advance booking is required. Be sure to include the booking in your plans before setting off. At Holmåkrasjön, four kilometres south of Ambjörnarp, there is a rest area with barbecue and swimming facilities along the draisine route. This means you can also plan a waterside break during your ride.

Walking Trails, a Garden and the Lakeshore

Store-Malen runt is an easy 9 km walking trail around Lake Store-Malen. The route follows the shore through woodland and crosses bridges and boardwalks. There is a car park at the starting point. Carlssons Promenad also runs by Björnhyltans Trädgård: the trail is 1.5 km long and tells the story of the farm and local life in the past. Compared with Store-Malen runt’s 9 km, the promenade is considerably shorter; its focus is the history of the farm and the local area, while Store-Malen runt is an easy lakeside trail through woodland.

Björnhyltans Trädgård is a visitor garden with a garden café, farm shop, display garden and cultural trail. The farm shop sells seasonal vegetables. As visitor facilities and their seasonal opening arrangements may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Water Skiing and a Swimming Area

At Skogssjön, the Ambjörnarps Vattenskidklubb uses the lake for water skiing. On the weekend of 16 and 17 August 2025, the club hosted the Swedish Open Championships and the Para Championships in water skiing there. At Lake Visen, there is a swimming area with a jetty, diving tower, grassy areas, and tables and benches. Depending on the activity you have in mind, you can choose between water skiing at Skogssjön and the swimming area at Visen.

Church and Local History

Ambjörnarp Church is a Neoclassical wooden church dating from the 1840s. Its exterior has been well preserved since it was built. Inside, an oil painting by Bertha Maria Ahlgren of Länghem, painted in 1895, serves as the altarpiece. Behind it is the original altarpiece, painted directly onto the wall, which depicts the same subject as the altarpiece in the neighbouring parish of Sjötofta. A chandelier from the Limmared glassworks also hangs in the chancel. The well-preserved exterior and the layers of the interior furnishings sit side by side: the building dates from the 1840s, while the visible altarpiece is from 1895 and conceals an original wall painting. Ambjörnarp also has a bicycle museum.
