On Källö-Knippla, the 1.5-kilometer “Slingan” circular trail runs along the sea, through vegetation, and across rocky terrain. It is part of the Göteborgs skärgårdsled, which in turn belongs to the longer Kuststigen trail. At the highest point on Knippla is the Wideringen viewpoint, with a 360-degree view across the islands, sea, and horizon. This puts a route through varied landscapes and a panoramic view side by side as different ways to experience the island.

Slingan and the view from Wideringen

The trail is adapted for accessibility, but has some steeper sections. Take the inclines into account alongside its accessibility adaptations when planning to walk Slingan. There are benches and tables along the way, as well as a large barbecue area. These facilities complement the landscape route with places to sit and barbecue.

Swimming and outdoor activities

Tranbärsvikens badplats swimming area is on the east side of Källö-Knippla and has a diving tower, floating jetties, and a toilet. Municipal swimming facilities may change; check their current condition before your visit. On Knippla, there is an outdoor padel court on Tranbärsvägen. If you plan to play padel, check the booking arrangements in advance. An outdoor gym is located next to the football pitch and the swimming beach.

There is a boules court by the café in Knippla harbor, open to everyone except when KIK is holding matches or league competitions there. The mini-golf course is next to the outdoor terrace and is open seasonally. The sauna on Knippla offers evening sunshine and the chance to cool off with a swim in the sea. Alongside the circular trail, these provide different options for focusing your stay on swimming, sports, or the harbor.

Local character and history

Källö-Knippla has a well-preserved, authentic Bohuslän settlement, with houses standing close together. According to local history, the first inhabitants were fishermen who benefited from the great herring period of the 1790s. In the 1960s, there were 29 fishing boats in the harbor, each crewed by six to eight fishermen. The 1790s refer to the early settlement, while the figures from the 1960s give specific details about the later harbor operations.

The site of Knippla Chapel was used by the Verdandi temperance association. Coffee is usually served after church services. A traditional Midsummer celebration is for children and adults. This gives you different themes to consider when planning your visit: the local character and fishing history, the trail through the landscape, or activities by the water and in the harbor.

Getting there and staying

Källö-Knippla can be reached by boat or by car ferry from the Burö ferry terminal on Hälsö. Check the timetable for your travel date before deciding how to get there. Knippla guest harbor has 130 guest berths, including five adapted for accessibility. As capacity and facilities may change, check current availability and facilities when making specific plans.
