A lit trail, boule and excursions in Sörbygden offer different ways to enjoy active days in Hedekas. The trail can be used for walking, cycling and running; when there is snow and conditions are suitable, cross-country skiing is also possible. Several hiking trails on Kynnefjäll start in Kasebo, just north of Hedekas.
A Trail for Different Seasons
The trail behind Hedekas community centre is about two kilometres long and lit. It is open to the public year-round for walking, cycling and running. These three activities share the same trail; its length and lighting provide a clear framework for planning a workout.
When there is snow and conditions are suitable, the trail is groomed for cross-country skiing. At those times, it may only be used with skis, to avoid damaging the tracks. This distinction is important when planning a trip: walking, cycling and running are possible year-round, but the ski-only rule takes precedence when the trail is groomed.
Boule and Cycling
Hedekas Boulehall has four indoor boule courts and five outdoor courts. This adds a sporting activity to the range of routes. The division into indoor and outdoor courts offers a different way to plan than a trail’s distance in kilometres: for boule, the number and location of the courts are key.
Sörbygdenrundan is a 48-kilometre cycling route. Compared with the trail in Hedekas, which is about two kilometres long, it represents a distinctly different scale. This makes it possible to consider a clearly defined trail and a much longer cycling route as different options when planning.
Places on the Handlarrundan are booked by phone through the Trogens Place shop in Hedekas. Confirm the contact details before your trip.
Excursions and Landscape
Hedekas is a natural starting point for excursions in Sörbygden. Kynnefjäll offers a different perspective on the landscape: the plateau area is bordered to the west by the depression of Bullaresjöarna and to the east by the Örekilsälven valley. The nutrient-poor plateau is criss-crossed by parallel rift valleys with watercourses and, in many places, long, narrow lakes. Kynnefjäll is part of the EU’s Natura 2000 network.
The depression to the west and the valley to the east frame the plateau, while the rift valleys with their watercourses and long, narrow lakes shape its interior. Kynnefjäll therefore offers a way to understand the landscape that differs from the specific trail length in Hedekas.
When choosing where to stay, visitors can combine activities in the village with regional excursions: Hedekas has the lit trail and boule hall, and is also a natural starting point for excursions in Sörbygden.
A Work That Appears to Float
The work “Det dansande ägget” (The Dancing Egg) got its name because it looks as if it is floating lightly above the place. Its name adds an artistic connection to Hedekas alongside the trails, boule facilities and landscape.
