Rävlanda offers three distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: gardens, cycling and church history. Rävlanda trädgård features a variety of plantings, as well as space to play and enjoy picnics with food you have brought along. Heden offers magnificent views over the Storån valley and a mountain biking facility. Other highlights include the Västgötaleden, which runs through Rävlanda, today’s Björketorps kyrka and traces of the old church site. These themes give you different ways to tailor your stay to your own interests.

Rävlanda trädgård: plantings and picnics

Rävlanda trädgård offers space to play and enjoy picnics with food you have brought along. Its plantings are also arranged into several distinct areas. The sensory garden features a variety of perennials and bulb plants, as well as a magnolia and beds of dahlias, roses and culinary herbs. The school garden has a different focus: it is dedicated to edible plants and includes a variety of berry bushes, an apple orchard, and plum and cherry trees. The two areas therefore differ not just in name but also in their choice of plants: the sensory garden focuses on perennials, flowers and culinary herbs, while the school garden features edible plants and fruit trees. This distinction can help if you are particularly interested in ornamental plants or edible crops. The garden also offers several ways to spend time there: space to play and enjoy a picnic you have brought along complements the different planting themes. The easiest way to get to Rävlanda trädgård is by car or bus.

Heden and cycling

At Heden, scenic views and cycling come together. From here, you can enjoy magnificent views over the Storån valley. Next to Rävlandaskolan is a mountain biking facility with a cross-country trail and a skills area. It includes a pump track, balance obstacles and larger obstacles for bike trials. The Västgötaleden runs through Rävlanda, offering a different cycling option from the facility at Heden. This means you can choose between a dedicated mountain biking facility with several features and a route through the town.

Björketorps kyrka and the old church site

The interior furnishings and colour scheme of today’s Björketorps kyrka date from a renovation in 2009. Another connection to the area’s church history is the old church site: a spruce hedge planted in the 1930s marks its location in the old cemetery. The old church had room for around 500 people. At the old cemetery at Heden, 27 rectangular depressions mark graves; most are in the southeastern part. The two dates refer to different details: 2009 marks the renovation of the interior furnishings and colour scheme of the present-day church, while the 1930s refers to when the spruce hedge at the old church site was planted. The approximate capacity gives an idea of the size of the former church building, while the hedge and depressions provide tangible clues to the old cemetery. For a cultural-history focus, you can therefore consider the present-day church, the former church site and the marked graves separately.
