Tösse offers several themes to choose from: a large archipelago, a sandy beach, a hilly cycling route and two churches with their own histories. The focus you choose makes a difference to your planning. To experience the entire archipelago, you need access to a boat or canoe; for the cycling tour, distance, surface and terrain matter. The beach and churches offer different ways to spend your time locally.

Island world on Lake Vänern

Tösse skärgård comprises around 30 islands and is the largest archipelago on Lake Vänern in Dalsland. If the island world is your main destination, access to a boat or canoe needs to be part of your plans. This is a requirement for experiencing the entire archipelago. It makes the islands a different focus from a beach visit or a visit to a church building: here, your choice of transport matters from the outset.

Sandy beach and facilities at Sandvarpet

Sandvarpet is a sandy beach surrounded by forest. There is a bathing jetty in the water, as well as toilets, a playground and a barbecue area on the beach. This gives you a clear picture of what to expect: sand and forest define the surroundings, while the listed facilities add to the beach visit. If you are planning to spend time by the water, Sandvarpet is the named beach option in Tösse.

Cycling on Landsbygdsleden

The Landsbygdsleden cycling route includes a 9-kilometre stretch of gravel road through a larger forest area in the direction of Tösse. In places, the route is very hilly. Distance, gravel and terrain all matter when including this section in your cycling plans; the number of kilometres alone does not fully describe it. As road conditions can change, it is a good idea to check them before setting off.

Two churches, different historical milestones

Tösse kyrka is about 45 metres long and is one of the largest churches in the diocese. It was consecrated on 5 November 1848. Its approximate length illustrates its architectural scale; the comparison within the diocese provides further context. Tösse gamla kyrka has a different sequence of events at its heart: it was taken out of use in 1812, sold in 1832 and, after renovation, consecrated again for religious use in 1961. The churches therefore offer different historical perspectives: size and date of consecration on the one hand, and several changes in use and status on the other.

When looking for accommodation in Tösse, it may help to decide on your main focus first: the island world, the beach, the cycling route or the churches. The requirements differ: access by boat or canoe is needed for the entire archipelago, while the hilly gravel route should be taken into account for the cycling section. You can choose based on what interests you most during your stay.
