Kungsör’s nature and culture range from a circular trail and expansive views across Lake Mälaren to historic sites and a local heritage museum. When choosing where to stay, you can sort these highlights by your interests: trails, landscapes and local heritage offer different discoveries. The nature highlights include both specific routes and distinctive landscape features; local heritage brings together historical connections and present-day museum use.

Along the Kungsörsleden

The Kungsörsleden is a circular trail that starts and ends in central Kungsör. Its northern loop runs through the Jägaråsen Nature Reserve and is 7 km long. These two details raise different planning questions: the circular trail is based in the town centre, while the 7 km distance applies to the northern loop. There are several rest areas along the Kungsörsleden, where you can grill. If you would like to plan a stop along the trail, you can make use of one of the rest areas.

Jägaråsen and the view across Lake Mälaren

The Jägaråsen Nature Reserve is part of a ridge that runs along the westernmost part of Lake Mälaren, from the built-up area of Kungsör to where the Hedströmmen flows into the lake. This ridge places the reserve’s landscape in a broader context than the northern loop alone. In the southern part of Jägaråsen, Rundelborg offers expansive views across Lake Mälaren. The northern loop passes through the reserve; it offers a trail-based perspective on Jägaråsen, while Rundelborg highlights the view across the lake.

Kungsudden and Kungsgården

In the 16th century, Gustav Vasa had one of his royal estates built on Kungsudden. From there, you can enjoy a lovely view across Lake Mälaren and the restored lakeside meadows. The site has both historical and landscape connections: the royal estate dates back to the 16th century, while the view takes in the lake and the lakeside meadows. The surviving building known as the Hovfruntimmers building at Kungsgården is now used as a local heritage centre; it houses a local heritage museum. Kungsudden and the building at Kungsgården have different features: the former is defined by a 16th-century royal estate, while the latter is used today as a local heritage centre and museum.

Stengärdet: boulder field, forest and springs

The Stengärdet Nature Reserve encompasses part of Köpingsåsen and adjoining spruce forest with a primeval character. Stengärdet is a boulder field on the ridge. In the spruce forest, clear springs contain groundwater rising from the ridge. The springs connect the spruce forest to the ridge from which their groundwater comes; alongside the boulder field, water is another natural feature. While Rundelborg offers expansive views across Lake Mälaren, Stengärdet is defined by its boulder field, ridge and springs.
