Bålstaåsen is a large forest area right next to Bålsta station. Circular trails, sections of the Upplandsleden and other activities in Bålsta offer different ways to shape your stay. If you’re looking for accommodation, you can plan around your preferred trail length: options range from a short loop by the lake to longer hiking sections, complemented by a museum, a park, cycling and paddling.

Circular Trails and Longer Stages

The approximately four-kilometre Hälsans stig loop passes through Bålsta by the station area, the centre, Medborgarhuset and the Upplandsleden. This places several of the town’s named landmarks along one loop. That sets the trail apart from routes whose descriptions focus mainly on forest or agricultural landscapes.

At approximately 4.5 kilometres, Björnbroslingan is slightly longer and forms a loop around Skörby in Bålsta. Gravel paths through open farmland alternate with winding forest trails. The route passes the Balders hage wetland; there are also several benches and two barbecue areas along the way. The alternation between open land and forest is a defining feature of this loop.

The shortest of the three loops described here is the 1.2-kilometre Lillsjöslingan, marked in blue, which circles Lillsjön. It runs mostly along natural forest trails. The lake and forest define this loop; by contrast, Hälsans stig features places along the route, while Björnbroslingan highlights stretches through farmland and forest.

Two sections of the Upplandsleden differ considerably in length. The section between Bålsta and Skokloster is approximately 20 kilometres long and marked in orange. From the ridges, you can enjoy views of the bays of Lake Mälaren and a broad agricultural landscape. The section between Bålsta and the Ekilla Nature Reserve is approximately five kilometres long, starting at Bålsta station and ending at the nature reserve. This gives you a choice between a shorter stage starting at the station and a longer route with views from the ridges.

Parks, Museums and Other Activities

Bålsta aktivitetspark is in central Bålsta, between Fridegårdsgymnasiet and the ice rink. It is a place to relax, play and enjoy impromptu sports. With the exception of the skate park, the facilities are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Åbergs Museum is housed in a renovated 19th-century barn. The museum also has a three-storey Trazankoja with a slide, suspension bridge and Hemliga Arnes laboratory. The building and the museum’s named features offer different points of interest: the barn reflects the building’s history, while the Trazankoja and its individual elements provide a focus of their own.

If you’d like to include activities other than hiking, there is also a named cycling route section and a paddling launch point. Cykelleden Uppland runs between Resecentrum in Bålsta and Ekillabadet on cycle paths without car traffic. Kalmarsand in Bålsta is a good starting point for paddling. You can shape your stay around hiking routes, cycling or paddling without combining these activities into a single route.
