Rösaring lies on a 60-meter-high gravel ridge, with views over Lake Mälaren. The site combines a distinctive landscape with archaeological traces: the surrounding area contains burial grounds, a 500-meter-long processional route and several stone-framed labyrinths. At the parking area, an information board marks the starting point of a hiking trail over the gravel ridge to the labyrinth. The Rösaringsåsen Nature Reserve is also worth visiting for the area’s diversity: it is part of the Natura 2000 network and is home to rare plants and insects.

Trails Through Landscape and History

For longer distances, consider comparing two hiking trails: the Upplands-Broleden is 29 kilometers in total and can be explored on foot or by bike. It passes through grazed pastures, along gravel roads and through rocky pine forests with views of the lake. Its orange-marked hiking section runs through the Lejondal, Stäketskogen, Frölunda and Broängarna nature reserves. The Låssaleden on Låssalandet is 13.5 kilometers in total. The Lennartsnäs Peninsula also has 35 kilometers of marked bridleways.

Shorter nature outings offer a variety of experiences, too. A total of 233 bird species have been recorded in Broängarna; a birdwatching tower and a three-kilometer nature and culture trail are also part of the area. Stäketskogen protects a very old, primeval-forest-like woodland with threatened insects, wood-decay fungi and glacial moraine ridges. A yellow-marked trail leads to a viewpoint above the railway tunnel, where there is a bench.

Lejondal Nature Reserve in Different Seasons

Lejondal Nature Reserve has grazed meadows and old woodland, as well as berries, mushrooms and wildlife. In winter, a skating loop is prepared and cross-country ski tracks are set. Anyone may use a wind shelter for an overnight stay outdoors. At Hällkana beach on Lake Lejondal, there are bathing jetties, several barbecue areas and an accessible barbecue shelter. Accropark Bro, a high ropes course with several courses at different heights and difficulty levels, is also located at Hällkana. Canoes for paddling trips on Lake Lejondal can be rented when a club or school hires the recreation center.

Use the listed connections to plan your journey to the nature reserves. To reach Rösaringsåsen, take the bus to Låssa kyrka, then walk about 1.6 kilometers to the parking area. To reach Lejondal Nature Reserve, take the bus from Bro station to Rosendal, then continue on foot for about two kilometers. Bus route 555 serves Broängarna; its stops are about 500 to 1,100 meters from the nature reserve. To reach Stäketskogen, take the commuter train to Kungsängen station, then walk about one kilometer to Dalkarlsbacken.

Castle Ruins, a Museum and Local Food

The area’s cultural history includes several stops: Almare-Stäket on Stäksön is Sweden’s largest medieval castle ruin. The island’s road museum displays examples of roads from the 17th and 19th centuries. Along the Upplands-Broleden, information boards tell visitors about Bronze Age cairns, the construction of old roads and Stäket Castle. Those interested in local food will find several farm shops and a REKO ring in Upplands-Bro, recommended as places to visit; the availability of individual vendors may change. Funkisfestivalen takes place every year in January in Upplands-Bro.
