Valdemarsvik combines walks in the central town with gardens, a wooden boat harbor and a section of the Östgötaleden trail. For your planning, two walking options can be clearly distinguished: the 3.5-kilometer-long Culture and Health Loop with information boards and the digital X-rundan, also called “Kryssrundan.” In addition, there are the rose garden, Möjligheternas trädgård, the museum of the Svenska Fergusonklubben and the Waldemarsviksrodden. This allows you to tailor your stay to your preferred focus—from a walk in town to landscape features along the Östgötaleden trail.
Walks in the central town
The Culture and Health Loop leads through the central town of Valdemarsvik and is 3.5 kilometers long. Along the route there are nine information boards. Part of the loop is easily accessible and adapted for people with strollers or a disability.
The X-rundan, also called Kryssrundan, is a digital quiz walk in the center. It starts at Sparbankstorget; the app shows the route. Unlike the loop, whose length and information boards provide orientation in advance, the focus here is on the quiz format with app-based directions. If you would like to choose a walk based on a known route length, the loop provides this specific information; for a digital quiz, the X-rundan is the clearly distinct alternative.
Gardens and wooden boat harbor
The rose garden in Valdemarsvik is laid out mainly as a large circle with several walking paths. Fragrant shrub roses grow there, several of which originated in antiquity. The garden Möjligheternas trädgård has several greenhouses and growing areas for flowers, vegetables, fruit and berries. The two gardens therefore appeal to different interests: roses and walking paths on one hand, greenhouses and varied growing areas on the other.
The wooden boat harbor adds another perspective. In summer, you can walk along the piers in the harbor in the center and view various well-preserved and well-maintained wooden boats.
Landscape and culture
For a different focus, there is the section of the Östgötaleden trail near Valdemarsvik. It includes several archipelago stages, passes through an agricultural landscape and goes by several small lakes. This creates a clear distinction for your selection: the offerings in the central town are described as walks or a quiz round; the Östgötaleden section is characterized by archipelago stages, agricultural landscape and small lakes.
Culture also plays a role in your selection. The museum of the Svenska Fergusonklubben combines agricultural nostalgia with an interest in technological development. Visits are possible by prior arrangement with the association office; the office can be reached from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 0121-305 75. Waldemarsviksrodden is an event featuring rowing on Valdemarsviken and an archipelago market along the waterfront promenade. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event dates in advance.
