Lindshammar brings together the history of Glasriket, two different trails and Boskvarnasjön. Vildmarksleden runs through the municipality of Uppvidinge to its northern end in Lindshammar; Lindshammarleden is a circular route through village, forest and industrial settings. At Boskvarnasjön, there is a bathing area with green spaces and jetties, as well as a fishing management area.

Trails through the municipality and the village

The 37-kilometre Vildmarksleden runs through the north-west of Uppvidinge municipality, from Norrhult and Klavreström in the south to Lindshammar in the north. In Lindshammar, it shares a route with Höglandsleden for about one kilometre. Within the municipality, Vildmarksleden also passes through several nature reserves and a variety of forest and wetland habitats.

The two distances refer to different sections: 37 kilometres is the total length of Vildmarksleden, while about one kilometre is the section it shares with Höglandsleden in Lindshammar. This makes it easy to understand the local shared section as a point of reference within the route through the municipality.

Lindshammarleden, by contrast, is a circular route. It passes through village settings, forest areas and industrial settings, as well as the lakes Hedasjön and Boskvarnasjön, and is suitable for cycling. If you plan to explore the entire Lindshammarleden on foot and arrive by car, the trail description recommends parking at the old glassworks in Lindshammar.

The route’s form and focus can help you choose: Vildmarksleden has southern starting points and Lindshammar as its northern destination; Lindshammarleden forms a loop past named local and landscape features. This lets you distinguish a route with an endpoint from a circular route.

Glassworks: production and construction history

The glassworks in Lindshammar is the northernmost glassworks in Glasriket. It began operating in 1905; production ceased in 2008. Wilhelm von Mühlenfels designed the factory, which was built between 1949 and 1955. The dates mark different stages: 1905 was the start of operations, 1949 to 1955 was the period when the factory was built, and 2008 marked the end of production. The start of operations and construction of the factory were therefore not the same event.

Those interested in glass and industrial history can learn about both the timeline of production and the factory’s architecture. These two aspects offer different perspectives on the history of the glassworks.

Boskvarnasjön as a trail and bathing destination

Boskvarnasjön is part of the Boskvarna and Lillesjön fishing management area. Perch, zander, pike and roach are also found in the area. In the northern part of Lindshammar, there is a bathing area with green spaces and jetties on Boskvarnasjön. Lindshammarleden also passes the lake.

This makes Boskvarnasjön a shared point of reference for the circular route, the bathing area and the fishing area. You can consider the lake as a destination in its own right when planning, alongside the glass history and the different types of trails.
