An 18-hole golf course in open countryside, a swimming pool with 25-metre lanes and places of cultural and historical interest give Söderåkra a variety of reasons to visit. Fulvik’s sandy beach is about four kilometres northeast of the town. This gives you a choice of different focuses, including golf, padel, swimming, local history and a day at the beach. When planning your stay, you can decide whether sport, historical traces or the landscape should shape your visit.
Golf, Padel and Swimming
Möre Golfklubb offers golf in Söderåkra on an 18-hole course in open countryside. Möre Golfklubb also has two outdoor courts for Möre Padel. This gives you a choice between two different sports: the golf course is defined by its 18 holes and open landscape, while padel is played on two outdoor courts. Booking and operating details may change, so check them before making specific plans.
Möre bad & simhall in Söderåkra offers swimming and play opportunities for children. Four swimming lanes, each 25 metres long, provide a clear guide for lane swimming; the play opportunities for children add another dimension to the facilities. Details may change, so it is worth checking the latest information before your visit.
History and Historic Places
In connection with the Peace of Brömsebro in 1645, part of the Swedish delegation was stationed at the Söderåkra rectory. The rectory gives this episode a specific place in the town’s history. Söderåkra kyrka, whose official name is Sophia Magdalena, is one of the parish churches of Söderåkra församling. The history of the peace treaty and the church heritage offer different perspectives on the town.
Skarptorpet is a soldier’s cottage built in the 1850s: a simple log house with a turf roof. Its construction date and materials give the building a clear historical character. In Övraby, the scattered remains of a row village established in the early 19th century have been preserved; the area also has numerous well-preserved agricultural outbuildings. While Skarptorpet is described as a single cottage, Övraby is notable for its scattered village traces and farm buildings.
Söderåkra Hembygdsgård comprises four historic buildings: a main building, a fisherman’s cottage, a barn and Emmas Stuga. Varggropen, one of the best-preserved wolf pits in Kalmar County, is also located in Fastlycke. It is lined with stones. Follow the local signs to reach it.
Rocky Landscapes, Beaches and Nature
Kanaberg lies on the road between Söderåkra and Påryd. There you’ll find Ice Age deposits of enormous boulders, with deep caves and long passages where climbing and crawling are possible. There is also a small barbecue area. The rock formations offer a different focus from a beach visit: here, the boulders, caves and passages take centre stage. Conditions around the boulders and caves may vary, so bear this in mind when planning your visit.
Fulvik lies about four kilometres northeast of Söderåkra and has a sandy beach with a bathing jetty, changing room, toilet and slide. If you’re planning a day at the beach, you’ll find the shore and several named facilities there. By contrast, Örarevet Nature Reserve encompasses a two-kilometre-long esker, three types of beach, diverse birdlife, barbecue areas, and cycling and hiking trails. Compared with Fulvik’s sandy beach, the landscape and trails are more prominent here. This makes it possible to think of a beach visit and a nature experience as different kinds of outing.
