Timmernabben combines a swimming area with maritime and ceramic history. Gamla stugbyn has a bathing jetty and a small sandy beach; other themes range from the lives of seafarers to fish smoking and ceramic production. When looking for accommodation, these different highlights can help you decide what kind of stay you want: would you mainly like to spend time by the water, or are you interested in seafaring and crafts?

Swimming Area and Harbor

The swimming area in Gamla stugbyn provides access to the water via a bathing jetty and a small sandy beach. If you plan to go swimming, it is a specific place to visit during this part of your stay. The jetty and beach offer two different ways to access the water.

The boat harbor of Timmernabbens båtsällskap is next to the old ferry landing. This means Timmernabben has two different points of connection with the water: the swimming area and a harbor at the former landing. The harbor links the water theme with the town’s maritime history; it is a distinct point of interest and should not be confused with the swimming area.

Seafaring and Family Life

The Sjöhistoriska rummet in Korsvirkeshuset shows how seafarers and their families lived around the turn of the 20th century. It looks beyond seafaring as an occupation to include the everyday lives of family members. Compared with the harbor, the focus here is more on people and living conditions. Those interested in local history can therefore find two different perspectives: the harbor with the old ferry landing, and the lives of seafarers and their families.

Ceramic Tradition and Townscape

The history of ceramics can be explored through two different historical reference points. Tillinge Fayence & Terracotta Fabrique began producing earthenware in Timmernabben in 1859. The site of Gabriel Keramik, by contrast, is notable for an uninterrupted ceramic tradition dating back to the 1850s. This tradition makes it a culturally and historically valuable setting and one of the most interesting industrial heritage environments in Mönsterås Municipality.

The dates tell different stories: 1859 marks the start of earthenware production at Tillinge; Gabriel is associated with an uninterrupted ceramic tradition and the site’s heritage value. Since 2021, Gabriel Keramik has produced only tiled stoves. The site also has a windmill, considered a notable building in the townscape. Together, the production and windmill give the ceramics theme both a craft dimension and a defining feature of the local landscape.

Smoked Fish and Summer Pastries

Nabbens Rökeri & Fisk has smoked fish at the same location since the early 1950s, using the same old techniques and traditional methods. This continuity applies both to the location and to the way the fish is prepared. It offers a distinct insight into local food crafts alongside the themes of the harbor, seafaring and ceramics.

In summer, Strandfiket serves homemade pastries at Danska Varvet beach. Unlike the smoking tradition, which has been described as long-standing, this is a seasonal place to visit: if you would like to plan a café visit, make it part of a summer trip.
