Bodafors combines furniture craftsmanship and cultural sites with walking and cycling routes of varying lengths. Kulturgatan offers exhibitions and workshops, while historic buildings reveal different aspects of the town’s history. For outdoor activities, choose from a walk through twelve types of natural habitat, a longer loop around the town, and cycling routes from 24.4 to 51 kilometres. This lets you shape your stay around culture, exercise or nature.

Furniture Craftsmanship and Cultural History

Kulturgatan has been a visitor destination and meeting place since 2017, with exhibitions and workshops; individual programmes change over time. At Villa Svea on Kulturgatan, you can visit a playful interpretation of the Lehmann family’s artists’ home. In 1926, Julius Lehmann built his marquetry workshop in Bodafors—a tangible link to the area’s furniture-making and craft traditions.

Bodafors kyrka also has links to furniture-making: Bertil Fridhagen, architect at Svenska Möbelfabrikerna, designed its interior. It was made locally, drawing on local expertise in furniture-making and woodworking. The old Bodafors kyrka was incorporated into the new building, which was inaugurated in 1972; Ralph Erskine was its architect.

Emåns Ekomuseum consists of four buildings with an interesting history. The former mill and stable serve as exhibition and collection spaces. Dock & Leksaksmuseet has been located in Bodafors, in Nässjö Municipality, since 1 July 2014. It displays dolls, teddy bears, toy vehicles, trains, games, children’s books and children’s clothing from around the 1860s to the 1980s. The museum is housed in the former manager’s residence in a building dating from the period between the 1880s and 1890s.

Cycling and Walking

On Grusvägsrull, you can choose between a short 24.4-kilometre route and a long 51-kilometre route. Both run mainly on gravel, with additional sections on trails. The route starts in Bodafors and leads to Kulturgatan. Kulturrundan is 44.3 kilometres long and also continues to Kulturgatan in Bodafors. In terms of distance, it falls between the two Grusvägsrull options. Check route conditions before setting off.

The walking options differ in both length and format. The four-kilometre walk at Emåns Ekomuseum passes through twelve different types of natural habitat, with diverse flora and fauna. Bodafors Hälsostig is an approximately eight-kilometre walking and exercise route around the town—about twice as long as the walk at the Ekomuseum. X-rundan Bodaforspromenaden adds a digital quiz walk that you can complete on your mobile phone.

In the southwestern part of Bodafors is the illuminated Bodafors Aktivitetsspår, which winds through the landscape. It is suitable for wheelchairs, prams and walkers; a guide rail for long white canes runs along the entire route. Check the conditions on site before your visit. Just outside Bodafors is Vikskvarns naturreservat, where three stages of Höglandsleden meet. In Bodafors itself, Vareviksbadet is a bathing spot on Storesjön; conditions may vary seasonally. Bodafors railway station has step-free access and a ramp.
