Vasaloppet and Other Checkpoints

At the first Vasaloppet in 1922, Evertsberg was the first timing checkpoint; split times from all Vasaloppet races are available there. Since 1970, the Bergspriset has been awarded to the skier who reaches Evertsberg first in the Vasaloppet. The two details highlight different things: the timing checkpoint records the race’s intermediate times, while the prize is based on the order in which skiers reach Evertsberg. Evertsberg is also one of seven checkpoints in the Cykelvasan 90. Route and service arrangements for this race may change between editions. If you are planning your trip around the Cykelvasan 90, check the information for the specific edition.

The Chapel and Romboleden

Evertsberg Chapel is located on the Vasaloppet trail and serves as a landmark for many Vasaloppet skiers. Stage 19 of the Romboleden trail also begins at the chapel, running from Evertsberg to Älvdalen. Parking is available at the chapel for this stage, and the nearest bus stop is a two-minute walk away. For your travel planning, you can take the parking and the walk to the bus stop into account as two specific details. The two-minute figure refers to the walk to the bus stop, not the duration of the stage. Check current public transport information before setting off. It is also advisable to check seasonal and weather conditions before you begin.

The Chapel and Historical Collections

The present-day Evertsberg Chapel was renovated in 1750. The chapel contains an altarpiece that was probably made in Nuremberg, Germany, around 1450. The dates refer to different things: 1750 marks the renovation of the present-day chapel, while the approximate date refers to the presumed creation of the altarpiece.

Evertsberg’s Gammelgård was established from 1974 onward using buildings from mountain pastures and villages around Evertsberg. Its collections include about 100 objects connected to the old farming community. Alongside the chapel’s furnishings, this offers another historical perspective: buildings and objects from the former agricultural society. During Evertsbergs Dag, part of the local heritage week, tunnbröd is baked in the large bakehouse at Evertsberg’s Gammelgård. If you would like to include this event in your travel plans, check the current event dates.

Views, Archaeology and a Bathing Spot

Near Evertsberg is Dysdalen Cultural Reserve, an archaeological area covering 64 hectares. Traces found there include bloomery furnaces used to produce bog iron. A road behind Evertsberg leads to the summit of Boggberget. From Boggberget, you can enjoy views of Sälenfjällen, Oxberg and Gopshus. The area thus offers a range of attractions: archaeological remains in the cultural reserve and views from Boggberget.

Evertsberg bathing spot at Skepphussjön is a swimming area in Älvdalen Municipality. It has a sandy beach, a large lawn, a jetty and a diving tower; conditions may vary by season. Unlike the Romboleden stage, where the starting point and trail conditions are important for planning, the focus here is on spending time by the water and the available bathing facilities. Take the conditions into account for the season you plan to visit.
