Borlänge’s destinations offer a variety of experiences: science and a planetarium, local history, trails through a landscape rich in plant and animal life, as well as cross-country ski trails and downhill slopes. To help plan your trip, you can start by asking whether culture, nature or winter sports should take priority.

Science, planetarium and water park

The 2047 Science Center in Borlänge is a place to explore science, technology and mathematics. At the Ljungbergsplanetarium, films and planetarium programs are shown, with a guide leading visitors through the solar system and galaxies. The program may vary by season; if you are coming for a particular show, check the current schedule.

Aqua Nova is a water park in Borlänge. Its facilities include three slides, a wild-water area and a wave pool. There is also an outdoor pool with a whirlpool and a massage bubble bench. As facilities may change, it is worth checking the latest information before your visit if you plan to use a specific feature.

Local history and events

Gammelgården is one of Sweden’s largest open-air local history museums. The site includes 35 buildings and thousands of objects that illustrate Borlänge’s historical roots. It offers a way to explore the past through buildings and collection items, rather than relying solely on individual accounts.

Events at Gammelgården include Midsummer celebrations, a Christmas market, dance evenings and outdoor church services. The program may vary by season and year. If a particular celebration or evening is the reason for your trip, check the relevant date.

Ornässtugan is another destination for culture enthusiasts. The museum is in the Borlänge area, between Borlänge and Falun. Visits are only possible with a guided tour; confirm the visiting arrangements before you travel.

Nature trails and cycling routes

Frostbrunnsdalen is known for its rich variety of plant and animal life. It has several trails and rest areas, as well as a café in summer. The café is seasonal, so check its opening times in advance if you want to factor it into your plans.

Bysjörundan is a popular cycling route in northern Borlänge and is just over ten kilometers long. It can also be walked. At one point, the walking route diverges from the cycling route. There are 17 information boards and four rest areas along Bysjörundan. The different routes are particularly important to note when choosing between cycling and walking. As the route and conditions may change, check the current route before setting out.

For mountain biking, Bjusanleden is another named route: it starts in Plättbacken and leads to Bjusan. A specific length is not included in the route description here. Runn Runt starts at the Resecentrum in Borlänge, providing a clear landmark for planning.

Winter: cross-country ski trails and ski resort

Gyllbergen is Borlänge’s largest nature reserve. It offers skiers 70 kilometers of groomed cross-country trails. Snow and trail grooming depend on conditions, so it is worth checking the latest conditions before a day of skiing.

Romme Alpin is 13 kilometers outside the city. The ski resort has 34 slopes and 14 lifts; these facilities may change. The information about Gyllbergen and Romme Alpin highlights two different types of winter sports: cross-country trails in a nature reserve and ski slopes with lifts at a resort. If you are planning your trip around a specific offering, check its current status.
