Palamunai is a coastal village in Ampara District in Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province. It belongs to the Addalaichenai administrative area. A local field study from 2022 describes fishing, agriculture and small-scale trade as sources of livelihood. It distinguishes between the fishing community’s connection to the sea and life around the paddy fields. This gives the place a more specific character than simply calling it a beach destination.

The sea and paddy fields as defining features of the place

When looking for accommodation in Palamunai, pay attention to its actual location in the village and in relation to the stretch of coast you want to visit. The coastal village should not be confused with every beach in Sri Lanka that has the same name. An address in the village also does not establish direct access to the sea or tourist activities with fishers or rice farmers.

The beach park has a documented history

In 2017, eleven pieces of playground equipment from six categories were installed in the children’s park by the beach. This is recorded in the official report for that year. The report also notes facilities that were missing at the time, including toilets, drinking water, shade trees and seating.

This information describes a historical situation. It does not say which equipment or facilities are available and usable today. So, if the park is important to your stay, check its current condition and access locally. The old figures alone do not support a reliable recommendation for families.
