El Mojón lies at the northernmost point of the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park. The Senda de Los Tarays runs parallel to a freshwater canal and offers opportunities for birdwatching. There are also beaches and festival programmes with specific dates. For planning purposes, you can treat the short nature trail, beach visits and local festivals as separate highlights.

An easy trail between the salt flats and the Mediterranean

The Senda de Los Tarays runs parallel to a freshwater canal that surrounds the salt flats and flows into the Mediterranean. Visitors can observe various bird species along the route. The trail is rated easy and takes approximately 20 minutes without stops. This duration is a guide for the route itself: if you spend longer looking out for birds along the way, you should allow extra time. This makes it possible to distinguish the walking time alone from a stroll with birdwatching stops.

The route also follows a clearly defined direction. The Senda heads north along the Playa del Mojón promenade. The promenade extends to the provincial boundary with Alicante. The canal, salt flats and sea are therefore geographic landmarks along this route.

The beach and finding your way around

On the Murcia side of the town, Playa de El Mojón beach borders the regional park. Playa El Mojón lies on the southern edge of the municipality of Pilar de la Horadada. It is often used by anglers and is easy to reach on foot or by car. There is a city bus stop nearby. You can therefore plan your beach visit using local landmarks; the information about Playa and the route through the salt flats describes different ways to enjoy the area.

A short trail and a longer Nordic walking route

A longer route was part of a scheduled activity: a Hibernis Mare Nordic walking route from Las Higuericas towards El Mojón was planned for 24 May 2026. The planned route was approximately 10 kilometres long, of moderate difficulty, with 30 metres of elevation gain. It was to continue along the salt flats route of San Pedro del Pinatar to the port of San Pedro del Pinatar. By comparison, the easy Senda de Los Tarays takes approximately 20 minutes without stops. This comparison highlights the difference between a short route and a longer, moderately difficult event route; the Nordic walking details refer to the May 2026 date.

Local festivals with specific dates

The Fiestas de El Mojón can also be viewed in the context of specific programme years. Pilar de la Horadada’s 2026 events calendar included a separate festival programme for El Mojón. The fiestas were scheduled from Tuesday 11 to Sunday 16 August 2026. The 2025 festival programme included a procession through the town’s streets in honour of San Roque, accompanied by the Unión Musical de San Pedro. The programme details offer a glimpse of each year; for a future visit, you should check the dates for the relevant travel year.
