San Vicente De O Grove can be explored through two themes: the coastal trails and beaches of San Vicente do Mar, and the archaeological heritage of Adro Vello in San Vicente do Grove. At the Paseo de Pedras Negras, the trail starts at the marina and runs mostly along the sea on wooden boardwalks. Adro Vello has numerous Roman and early medieval remains. When planning your visit, you can therefore weigh up whether to focus on the coastal landscape or on archaeological sites.
Coast Between the RĂa de Arousa and the Atlantic
San Vicente do Mar is surrounded by a continuous series of beaches. The beaches facing north lie on the RĂa de Arousa; those facing west and south are on the Atlantic Ocean. These directions provide a clear reference point if you want to identify beaches by their location. Playa Carreiro is on the northern coast of the O Grove peninsula; from there, nearby mussel farms in the RĂa de Arousa are visible. From the beaches in San Vicente, you can also see parts of the Parque Nacional de las Islas Atlánticas, including the archipelagos of the Ons Islands and Sálvora.
Trails by the Sea and in the Natura 2000 Network
The Paseo de Pedras Negras starts at the marina and runs mostly along the sea on wooden boardwalks. On the PR-G115 Adro Vello, most of the route lies within the Natura 2000 network. The two descriptions emphasize different features: the Paseo is defined by its route along the water and its wooden boardwalks, while the PR-G115 is notable for most of its route being within the protected-area network. This lets you compare the two trail descriptions using specific landscape features.
Archaeology and Architectural History
The Adro Vello archaeological site lies next to Playa de O Carreiro in San Vicente do Grove and is recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural de Galicia. It has numerous Roman and early medieval remains. One specific find is a coin depicting the transfer of the body of Saint James, the Traslatio, on one side. Visitors interested in culture can therefore explore several points of interest: its recognized protected status, evidence from two historical periods, and a specifically identified motif related to Saint James.
The Iglesia de San Vicente also offers a clearly defined historical detail: it dates from 1771 and faces east. The date places the church in its historical context, while its orientation adds an architectural feature to the history of the area. Together with Adro Vello, it offers another perspective on the cultural heritage of San Vicente do Grove.
Maritime Connections and Getting There
The Club Náutico San Vicente manages the Pedras Negras marina. One of the club’s main activities is a sailing school.
The PO-317 passes through San Vicente do Mar on its way to San Vicente do Grove. For planning your journey, this road connection provides a clear reference point: the road passes through the first place on the way to the second.
