Mera Beach is 520 metres long; its water is considered crystal clear and its sand golden. A wooden walkway connects it to the nearby Espiñeiro Beach. If you’re planning a stay on the coast, you can choose between beach activities, a coastal walk and nature watching at the Costa de Dexo-Serantes.

Beach and water

Stand-up paddleboarding is available at Mera Beach, where boards are also rented out. Rental availability may vary by season, so it’s a good idea to check what’s on offer before your visit. The clear, calm waters of Mera and Espiñeiro beaches are suitable for kayaking. Check local sea conditions before setting out.

A Lagoa is a recreational area opposite Mera Beach. Every spring, Mera hosts a triathlon featuring running, cycling and swimming along the beach promenade and around A Lagoa Park. Check the event dates before travelling if the triathlon is important to your travel dates.

Coastal path and natural monument

The Senda Litoral Mera runs along Mera’s seafront and features interpretive panels. It stretches between Canide and the Aula do Mar, is 3 kilometres long and takes about 45 minutes. The route is rated easy. Check the path conditions and signage on site before setting off.

The Costa de Dexo-Serantes Natural Monument stretches for 11 kilometres between the Mera lighthouses and the port of Lorbé. Since 2000, Costa de Dexo-Serantes has been a natural monument; as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), it is part of the Natura 2000 network. At Costa de Dexo-Serantes, you can admire the cliffs, watch birds and go hiking.

Mera Lighthouse offers a viewpoint over the Atlantic horizon, from which the mouths of three rías can be seen. The Aula do Mar serves as the visitor reception centre for the natural monument and houses a permanent interpretive exhibition about Costa de Dexo-Serantes.

Architecture and rowing

Casa do Arxentino is a 19th-century residence in Mera, built in the historicist style. It has a stone arcaded courtyard and floral ceramic-tile decoration on the cornice. An arcaded courtyard is a courtyard lined with arcades; a cornice is a horizontal façade element that often serves as a finishing feature. The tile decoration is influenced by elements of Andalusian or Portuguese historicism.

Rowing is another activity on offer, with training available from the beaches of Mera and Santa Cristina. Training ranges from an introduction to the sport to preparation for competition.
