A viewpoint reached by a five-minute walk up to a hill, historic textile production and festivals held on specific dates give Castellterçol several distinctive sides. Those choosing to visit can explore a short panoramic walk, traces of the past and traditions tied to particular days.
La Creueta and routes in the municipality
La Creueta is a viewpoint in Castellterçol. A path starts next to the cross and takes five minutes to reach a hill above it. From there, visitors can enjoy a 365-degree panorama with one of the best views of the town. The five minutes refers to this path up to the hill.
The GR-177 long-distance trail covers a different scale: this 109.68-kilometre circular route through Moianès passes through the municipality of Castellterçol on stages 3 and 4. The two figures answer different planning questions: five minutes for the path up to the hill at La Creueta, and 109.68 kilometres for the entire circular route.
Textile history and historic sites
The historic Carrers de la llana quarter reflects Castellterçol’s significant growth in the 17th century, shaped by textile production and the making of natural ice. Its characteristic buildings and streets preserve a distinctive style.
Can Nubiola, also known as El Tint, was used to dye textiles made in Castellterçol. The Casa Museu Prat de la Riba is located in the house where Enric Prat de la Riba (1870–1917) was born and died.
The surviving remains of the old Castell-Terçol include a moat, sections of the fortification walls with loopholes, and the remains of former lordly residences. Guided visits to Castell de Castellterçol are scheduled for the last Sunday in February, the last Saturday in July and the second Sunday in October. Check before travelling whether these dates apply to your visit.
Festa Major and L’Escudella
The Dansa de Castellterçol and the Ball del Ciri are among the ceremonial dances performed at the Festa Major. The Dansa takes place on the last Sunday in August, and the Ball del Ciri on the following Monday. Six pairs of dancers perform each dance; both have been documented since the second half of the 17th century. The performances therefore take place on consecutive days. Check the dates for the relevant year before travelling.
L’Escudella de Castellterçol is also tied to a specific feast day: on Shrove Tuesday, around thirty cauldrons of escudella are cooked and distributed to residents and visitors. If this festival is important to your travel plans, check the date for the relevant year.
