Those who choose Pelahustán will find a place where the granite landscape, orienteering and tangible evidence of local history each offer a different focus. Pelahustán lies in the area around the Sierra de San Vicente; nature, tradition and heritage come together in a mountain landscape of high ecological value. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between local history, activities in the surrounding area, or a combination of these themes.

Local history in granite and ceramics

The Rollo o Picota is a late Gothic granite monument and a symbol of jurisdictional freedom. It was inaugurated on 18 May 1635, when Pelahustán separated from Escalona upon acquiring the Villazgo privilege.

Pelahustán’s traditional vernacular architecture is defined by Berroqueña stone and granite; both materials were used for carefully crafted ashlar and rubble masonry. The Iglesia de San Andrés Apóstol has two entrances, known as Cierzo and Sol. Three historic Los Caños fountains dating from the 17th and 19th centuries have also been preserved. Pelahustán is also home to a 16th-century Talavera ceramic dado.

Local traditions include the Moharraches, a winter masquerade revived in Pelahustán and part of its cultural heritage. Its revival was announced in 2025.

Orienteering and trails in the surrounding area

The permanent CPO “Pelahustán” orienteering course is in the town center, at the intersection of Calle Santo Bastián and the CM-5005 road. Its three courses measure 1,900, 3,200 and 5,800 meters and are designed specifically for beginners and intermediate-level orienteers. The CPO combines a route through a dehesa with an urban course. Check local conditions before taking part.

Several circular trails in the area around Pelahustán are suitable for walking and cycling. From Pelahustán, you can also follow the Ruta del Puerto de San Vicente; it links traditional paths and offers striking panoramic views of the mountain terrain. Alongside the circular trails, it provides further opportunities for activities in the landscape.

Natural highlights include spectacular granite rock formations. The vegetation is characteristic of Mediterranean woodland: holm oaks and junipers mingle with cork oaks, Pyrenean oaks and downy oaks; in the riverside areas, olives, terebinths, broom and Spanish lavender are also found.

Plan your visit and stay

For planning your day, the themes are easy to distinguish: buildings and local history offer a cultural and historical focus, while orienteering and trails in the surrounding area provide outdoor activities. When looking for hotels in Pelahustán, you can use these themes as a guide and consider which one you want your trip to focus on. If you are planning to travel for the Moharraches, check in advance whether an event is scheduled during your stay. Bus route 918 connects Talavera de la Reina with Pelahustán; check the latest departure times before travelling.
