Puente De Vadillos offers a range of reasons to visit: the PR-CU 92 Ruta del embalse del Molino de Chincha runs from the town along the RĂo Cuervo to the dam; the Museo Regional de los Gancheros y la Madera provides a cultural focus. There is also the VĂa ferrata de la hoz de Beteta and the Mirador de la Ermita de las Angustias, overlooking the start of the Hoz de Beteta. This gives you several options: a riverside route, a museum, a via ferrata and a viewpoint.
The PR-CU 92: Riverside and Reservoir
The PR-CU 92 Ruta del embalse del Molino de Chincha starts in Puente De Vadillos and follows the right bank of the RĂo Cuervo northeast to the dam of the Embalse del Molino de Chincha. It is part of the network of certified provincial trails. The linear route is 4.5 km long and rated as low difficulty. The length and rating offer different points of reference: one describes the distance, the other the level of difficulty; the linear route ends at a destination rather than returning via a loop.
The entire route runs in the shade of a dense pine forest. The forest also surrounds the waters of the Embalse del Molino de Chincha. The construction of the Presa del Molino de Chincha makes use of a narrow limestone passage, considered unique and of great beauty. The riverside, forest, reservoir and limestone are the specific landscape features along this route.
A Cultural Visit in the Town
The Museo Regional de los Gancheros y la Madera is located on Calle Llanos de la Huerta in Puente De Vadillos and is open to the public. It is classified under ethnography and anthropology. This gives the museum its own cultural focus alongside the landscape of the PR-CU 92. If you would like to visit the museum, check the latest access information beforehand, as public access may change.
Via Ferrata and Viewpoint
The VĂa ferrata de la hoz de Beteta is rated K2/K3, a moderate difficulty level. This differs from the PR-CU 92, which is rated as low difficulty. From Puente De Vadillos, the via ferrata can be reached via the CM-210 in the direction of Beteta. Parking is available nearby, before the bridge over the RĂo Guadiela. Check local conditions before setting off.
The Mirador de la Ermita de las Angustias is just over a kilometre from Puente De Vadillos and offers a view of the start of the Hoz de Beteta. In addition to the via ferrata's rating, this gives you a specific viewpoint, an approximate distance and a named view. The viewpoint and the via ferrata offer different ways to experience the landscape: one through the view, the other through a moderately difficult activity.
Further Landscape and Cultural Connections
Outside Cañizares lies the Hoz de Tragavivos, a natural gorge where geology, water and forest come together. Cañizares is one of the towns in the province of Cuenca associated with the Fiesta de los Gancheros del Alto Tajo. On 1 December 2022, the UNESCO Committee added the Fiesta to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. These details add a distinctive natural area and a dated cultural heritage protection milestone to the landscape and cultural themes.
