The Bolera de Tezanillos is considered the oldest corro in Cantabria. Together with the parish church of Santa María and two very different routes, it gives Tezanos a cultural focus and offers various ways to explore the surrounding area along a route. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the driving route and the cycling circuit: they differ in mode of transport, length and the information provided about their profiles.

Heritage in Tezanos

The Bolera de Tezanillos is located in Barrio del Corro. It is considered the oldest corro in Cantabria and is associated with Bolo Palma. A new throwing area has been set up there for playing the game, and it is suitable for all age groups. Check the condition of the throwing area before visiting.

Another cultural landmark is the parish church of Santa María, also known as Natividad. The building dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and retains Romanesque remains. Inside are three notable Baroque altarpieces and a much-venerated image of Santa Ana Trina. Thus, descriptions of the village focus both on the bolera and Bolo Palma, and on church architecture and furnishings.

Two routes, two different profiles

The Los pueblos carredanos driving route runs from Bárcena de Carriedo through Tezanos, Pedroso, Santibáñez and Aloños. It is 10 kilometres long and described as a route to be driven by car. Along the route, manor houses, traditional houses, fountains and boleras can be seen as architecturally significant elements of the cultural heritage. Its focus is therefore on several types of architectural and cultural heritage along a set sequence of places.

The Circuito Valles Pasiegos, by contrast, is a moderate-level cycling circuit. It starts in Selaya, goes to Pisueña and then on to Tezanos and Villacarriedo. Sports clothing and suitable cycling footwear are required. The Circuito Valles Pasiegos passes through meadows bordered by stone walls and dotted with Pasiego huts.

Comparing the two routes helps you make a specific choice: Los pueblos carredanos is the 10-kilometre driving route, passing several named settlements and architectural points of interest. For the Circuito Valles Pasiegos, the key details are that it is a circuit of moderate difficulty and that suitable cycling gear is required. Check the latest information about the circuit before setting out on a cycling trip.

Getting to Tezanos

Tezanos can be reached via the CA-625, which runs between Santibáñez and Selaya. This provides a named road connection for getting there; the Los pueblos carredanos driving route and the Circuito Valles Pasiegos remain separate routes with their own courses. Taken together, these details provide an overview of the village’s cultural attractions, a driving route and a cycling option, without combining the two routes into a single tour.
